Popeye Color Feature
The Popeye Color Features or Popeye Color Specials consist of: Popeye the Sailor Meets Sindbad the Sailor, Popeye the Sailor Meets Ali Baba's Forty Thieves and Aladdin and His Wonderful Lamp, the only Popeye shorts released in Technicolor by Fleischer Studios, also being double. This is the first of three Popeye Color Specials, the others being including Popeye the Sailor Meets Ali Baba's Forty Thieves, and Aladdin and His Wonderful Lamp (all adapted from One Thousand and One Nights). Many of the scenes in this short feature make use of the Fleischer's multiplane camera "Stereoptical Process", or "Setback Tabletop" process, which used modeled sets to create 3D.

In 1933, Max and Dave Fleischer's Fleischer Studios. Emboldened by their early success, the Fleischers turned out three 'Color Specials', which, at over sixteen minutes each, about three times a normal cartoon's length, were billed in theaters as "A Popeye Feature". They also featured brilliant color instead of the usual B&W and an early 3-D type effect by use of their patented 'multiplane' camera.
Popeye the Sailor Meets Ali Baba's Forty Thieves is a two-reel animated cartoon short subject in the Popeye Color Feature series, produced in Technicolor and released to theatres on November 26, 1937 by Paramount Pictures. It was produced by Max Fleischer for Fleischer Studios, Inc. and directed by Dave Fleischer.

Fleischer Studios produced 108 Popeye cartoons; 105 of them in black and white. The remaining three were two-reel (double-length) Technicolor specials billed as "Popeye Color Features": Popeye the Sailor Meets Sindbad the Sailor, Popeye the Sailor Meets Ali Baba's Forty Thieves, and Aladdin and His Wonderful Lamp. Popeye the Sailor: The 1940s, Volume 2 (released June 18, 2019) features the next 15 color Popeye shorts produced by Famous Studios from 1946 to 1947.

Popeye the Sailor series All cartoons are one-reel (6 to 10 minutes) and in black-and-white, except for the three Popeye Color Specials (Popeye the Sailor Meets Sindbad the Sailor from 1936, Popeye the Sailor Meets Ali Baba's Forty Thieves from 1937, and Aladdin and His Wonderful Lamp from 1939), which are two-reels (approx. 20 minutes) long and in Technicolor.
