In 1977 what began as a simple desire to serve and bring people together has grown into something much greater than we imagined. What started with just three families in a small, one-room building in the middle of a residential neighborhood quickly became something more.
In the early days, growth didn’t come from marketing or visibility—it came from presence. We walked the neighborhood, knocked on doors, and built relationships one conversation at a time. Out of that, a community began to form.
As families gathered, new opportunities to serve emerged. A youth choir was launched, giving young people a place to express themselves, build confidence, and belong. What began as a small group steadily grew as more people found connection and purpose.
Over time, Gospel Tabernacle Church outgrew not just one space—but three different locations. Each move represented both growth and challenge, but also a clear sign that the need—and the impact—was increasing.
As the ministry expanded, so did the scope of the work. We began supporting women in crisis by launching a shelter, creating a safe place during difficult transitions. We developed training programs for discipleship and clergy, helping equip leaders to better serve communities. We created a weekly safe-haven program for youth. We collaborated with social service agencies and partnered with community programs to deliver meaningful support in the areas of health and wellness, food insecurity, education, and job readiness. Outreach efforts continued to grow, meeting practical and spiritual needs beyond the walls of a building.
Through every stage, one thing has remained consistent: a commitment to serve, to grow, and to respond to the needs of the community. This journey has never been about a building—it has always been about people. And today, that same heart continues to guide what comes next.
