There are no prerequisites needed to attend this course. Students must be able to verbally communicate with instructor in primary language of the training.
Intended Audience
This course is intended to provide a higher knowledge level for managers, supervisor, and workers with safety responsibilities. This safety and health-hazard information is tailored to Marine Terminals, and employees working in Marine Terminals.
Course Overview
The maritime industry includes the construction, repair, and scrapping of vessels, as well as the movement of cargo and other materials. Hazards include slips, trips, and falls, machinery and equipment hazards, hazardous chemicals, confined/enclosed spaces, and fire hazards. The implementation of controls, procedures, and training help raise awareness of potential hazards and ways to keep workers safe. This course will provide you with OSHA information, resources, and solutions to help workers and employers identify, reduce, and eliminate maritime-related hazards.

At the completion of the course, learners will be able to:
- Understand the variety of maritime industry safety and health hazards which a worker may encounter at a work site;
- Understand workers' rights, employer responsibilities and how to file a complaint.
- Know where to obtain helpful worker safety and health resources.
- Identify hazardous energy sources and use appropriate energy-isolating devices, and describe the procedures for conducting a lockout/tag-out
- Explain the importance of OSHA in providing a safe and healthful workplace to workers covered by OSHA
- Apply the OSHA regulations for walking and working surfaces to avoid slips, trips, and falls in the workplace, and recognize safe work practices for installing, maintaining, and using stairs, ladders, and scaffolds.
- Explain the OSHA requirements for exit routes and Emergency Action plans and describe OSHA requirements for Fire Prevention plans and portable fire extinguishers
- Identify safe work practices around electricity, including understanding electrical terms, basic electrical safety principles, and regulations which pertain to electrical safety
- Select a variety of PPE based on a workplace evaluation and the types of hazards, and take responsibility for correctly fitting, maintaining, and using personal protective equipment
Completion Requirements:
Students are required to complete 100% of the course and actively participate in all learning activities.
After successfully completing this training, learners will receive a certificate of completion (within 24 hours) and will be mailed a Department of Labor (DOL) course completion card (allow 3-4 weeks for card delivery).
