WHAT TO EXPECT:
1) Preparations- a few days leading up to the cleanse (Nov 16-17) begin to focus on eating whole food and eliminate processed foods, sugar, alcohol, and caffeine. More info on how to make this transition is provided in the informational meeting. If you have not purchased the detox kit, plan to purchase necessary food/materials (plan $100 into your budget). A shopping list will be provided.
2) Active Cleansing- during this time (November 18-21), you will eat a very simplified monodiet of kitchari (basmati rice cooked with yellow mung dal). This diet is substantive enough that you can maintain your essential responsibilities, but it simultaneously resets the digestive system, supports the elimination of toxins, and balances blood sugar. Depending on your needs, additional nutritional recommendations may be made such as adding specific vegetables, broths, teas or supplements. Other cleansing practices include: increasing the amount and quality of your sleep, dry brushing and abyhanga to increase lymphatic flow, oral care and restorative yoga postures. At a minimum, eliminate any unnecessary obligations and give yourself as much unscheduled time to rest as possible.
3) Reintroduction- (November 22-23) a slow transition back into your normal routine and a more diverse diet is important. eat primarily simple, whole foods, diversifying your menu gradually. If possible, take this time to test the waters with foods that are potentially aggravating like dairy, wheat, and soy—ideally, reintroducing these foods one at a time and giving yourself up to twenty-four hours to observe how your body responds to each one.
SAMPLE DAY:
Wake, am tonic, dry brush & oral care
Breakfast (kitchari porridge)
Lunch (Kitchari dahl)
Time outdoors (minimum 15 minutes of natural light)
Dinner (Homestyle Kitchari)
Gentle Yoga & Abyanhga massage
*Sip tea throughout the day, make time to rest/have an earlier bed time.
IS IT SAFE TO CLEANSE WITH HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE, BLOOD SUGAR ISSUES, OR HIGH CHOLESTEROL?
Because no two people are alike, I always make sure to consider the entire health history of those who enroll in this course. As a certified functional nutritionist, I know how to adapt the program to meet your needs and address your complex health issues and expedite your journey towards recovery.
CAN I DO THIS CLEANSE IF I AM NON-AMBULATORY?
Those who are non ambulatory will find benefit from the lymphatic and digestive flush this cleanse offers. Our body depends on our movement for healthy function. The squeeze and release of our muscles is what helps generate lymphatic flow, keeps our circulation healthy and aids our immune system in flushing bacteria and toxins. If we are not getting this regular movement, then practices like dry brushing and oil massage can be very beneficial. Additionally, as an adaptive yoga insturctor with 15 years of experience, I am able to adapt yoga poses to meet the needs of your body.
HOW WILL THIS CLEANSE IMPACT MY WEIGHT/ GUT HEALTH?
One of the ways this cleanse supports weight loss and gut health is by nourishing the microbiome: During a kitchari cleanse, the body receives a significant amount of soluble fiber from the mung beans. Gut microbes feed on this fiber to produce butyric acid, a short-chain fatty acid essential for colon health. A kitchari cleanse also re-establishes a healthy relationship with food by curbing cravings for processed foods
HOW WILL THIS CLEANSE IMPACT MY HORMONES?
One of the ways this cleanse supports hormonal balance is by providing the raw materials for hormone production: Healthy fats from ghee (clarified butter), a traditional kitchari ingredient, are necessary for producing key hormones like progesterone.
