ORDINANCE OF THE LORD’S SUPPER
(1 Cor. 11:23-26)
Introduction
Let us prepare our hearts and minds to receive the elements of the Lord’s Supper. All are invited to participate-boys and girls-men and women. We ask only that you receive the Ordinance of the Lord’s Supper with a sense of thanksgiving for Jesus’ death on the cross to save us from eternal death. Take the bread and the juice of the grape asking the Lord to forgive you, cleanse you, guide you, and transform the world.
The Bread
On the night that our Lord was betrayed, He met with his disciples in an upper room to celebrate the Passover meal. It was during that meal that the Lord instituted this Ordinance for us to follow until he returns. He took bread and blessed it before he gave the bread to his disciples. “Name”______ will bless the bread today.
(After the prayer of blessing, the bread is given to the participants. No one serves themselves. The Leader instructs the supping of the bread.)
The Lord said to his disciples, “This is my body broken for you. Do this in remembrance of me.” Let us sup.
The Cup
In the like manner, our Lord also took the cup and gave thanks. “Name” __________ will give thanks for the cup today.
(After the prayer of thanks, the cup is given to the participants. No one serves themselves. The Leader instructs the drinking of the cup.)
The Lord said to his disciples, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood. As often as you drink it-you drink it in remembrance of me.” Let us drink.
Let us not forget the instruction of the Scripture, “For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until he comes.” (1 Cor 11:26)
