We got in well after the front office had closed but they arranged for us to be able to pick up our key that night, and then we just checked in the next morning. The cottage was clean and cozy, and we loved being able to spend time on the spacious front porch. We were in town to visit Colonial Williamsburg and found the location to be perfect. It was close enough that we could get to tourist sites/restaurants within ten minutes, but it still felt like a relatively secluded campground. The people at the front desk were all very friendly and helpful. We will definitely stay with Anvil again if we find ourselves in the area.”

The sites are gravel and clean, all hookups in working order. When you arrive at your site, the grounds, table, and fire pit are all clean and ready for use. There is a bus system that can be used right from the campground that will get you to Colonial Williamsburg, Busch Gardens, and Jamestown. There are even stops at stores if you want. There are limited options for our group, and this came up. We really weren't sure what to expect — but this completely exceeded our expectations!
I called the campground to see if we could check in early, and the staff was very friendly and able to accommodate us. The campground is small, cute, and packed with amenities: a playground, small pool, laundry, bathhouse, and arcade. Check-in was easy, and the cottage was so cute and cozy. The bed was comfortable, and the kids had no complaints about the futons. There are actually two futons, and the kids used their sleeping bags. The A/C worked great even in the summer heat.
I would definitely recommend this to anyone wanting something different. Would stay again!\"

“This is the most charming, super clean, and well maintained campground I’ve experienced. The staff and owners are super friendly and helpful. The pool is sparkling clean. The games room would send any kid (or adult kid) into orbit. It is huge! The Rv spaces are well sized, level, and have top of the line utility posts. There is a grassy area with a fire ring and also a picnic table. The store is well stocked with a variety of items including some that will have you laughing out loud. There is a small dog park and the laundry room has nice Speed Queen appliances. There is a bus stop right out front and takes you right to Williamsburg. I cannot say enough good things about this place! If you are reading this I’d suggest you go ahead and book it. You won’t be disappointed. There is even a train that rolls by now and again and just adds to the ambiance. Thank you to the owners and staff! We will be going back!

“This is a wonderful campground. Clean, well maintained, bath houses spotless, well stocked store, friendly staff. Now the train runs right behind the campsites and honestly we found it very entertaining. Our site backed up to where the tracks are and we could see between the trees the train/Amtrak. Yes our camper shook some but it didn't bother us and certainly not a game changer from staying again. Very nice dog park, clean Laundromat, nice Gazebo to sit and read while doing laundry or to just gather with friends. Pool was clean. Campground is only about 10 minutes to downtown Williamsburg. We didn't use the shuttle service but that's a convenient way to travel. It's nice that you can buy your tickets for area attractions right at the campground store. Once you arrive they have someone that will guide you onto your campsite. We will definitely go back.”

Sites level, gravel plenty long for trailer and truck. Nice full hook ups and cable. Did not use wi fi but was available. Nice pool, general store, nice clean laundry area. (takes quarters only) Very friendly, helpful staff. A fellow camper even helped direct us to back in. Was a little tight due to cars and trucks parked on road and we are newbies. Will return! Not one negative. Trains nor road noise were an issue for us. We were used to it in 1 day. Park itself very quiet, respectful campers from families to older couples. Excellent Verizon Cell signal 24/7.

“This campground provides great service in the heart of everything. The spaces are not large but they are very well-equipped and there are additional areas to spread out and relax. We used the campground as a base for three days at Busch Gardens and it worked perfectly. Since we were coming and going frequently, we didn't want to set up a lot of outdoor chairs so it was nice to be able to sit on the bench swings in the 'relaxing area' while we enjoyed our (free) coffee and doughnuts. Everything was immaculate, including the bathhouse. We were a little concerned about the train tracks close by but they weren't blowing the whistle and we were never awakened at night by train noise (which has not been our experience at other sites located near train tracks). The beach playground they have set up is fantastic. The staff could not have been nicer. Because it's in the middle of everything, it's not as quiet as a state park, but there are trees and flowers so the setting is quite pretty. Highly recommended as a family campground.”

I’ve visited twice in the last 8 months. My first trip was solo. It’s a very tiny campground. No need for a cart or bike to get around. Most people were there at night and visiting the attractions during the day. The staff was absolutely amazing! The campground store was hit. They made me feel so at home.
I returned with my young son and we enjoyed the game room and grilling! We can’t wait to return in the summer when the pool is open and they serve cool treats for the kids!

“Welp... Anvil did it again... we came, visited, and yet again - blown away by the customer service and general good time. First off we LOVED the spot we got. Those premium spots are just clutch.
The morning of call is great. They keep you informed of any changes, say to get setup, and make it super casual.
When we arrived, we knew where to setup, knew that checking in wasn't the omg gotta do this moment, and then just had the no-pressure rush.
Why I like this campground - it's all about the customer service. We visit the store - smiling, helpful face that loves the dog (always helps) and always attentive to any questions we may have. When folks were having issues I saw folks running to help, fixing issues, and saying hello to customers pulling in.... all at the same instance (looked exhausting - but it's also what sets this place apart).
For those that have an issue with the train, I get it... however, at a certain point it becomes white noise and it even entertained our daughter as she watched the coal or passenger trains roll on through. Imo - not a big deal as it just adds to the character of the place... but I guess everyone is different.

“Our truck had mechanical problems as we hit the Williamsburg exit. Fortunately, a dealer was 3 miles away and even better, Anvil Campground was across the street. They quickly found us a spot and the Williamsburg RAM dealer towed our camper over. The heated pool was even open in late September! It’s a small, well kept family-owned campground at a good price. They were so accommodating given our strange situation and we appreciate their flexibility on our late checkout as we waited for our truck to be fixed.”

I’ve read the other reviews about the train…we didn’t hear the train at night with the AC units running, and during the day our kids loved seeing it go by. I wouldn’t let it deter you from a really nice place-especially if you are in a camper with AC/heat running all day/night.
The staff is incredibly friendly and you can tell they really care. Our kids loved the playground that is filled with sand, and has a zip line swing. The pool is heated and was open even after Labor Day.

“This was our second visit to Anvil. We stayed 6 nights on this trip, 4 with 3 grandsons and 2 by ourselves. We will not stay anywhere else! The boys loved the playground, pool, watching the water wheel and especially the free donuts every morning, ice cream sundies and snow cones. In their eyes all the local attractions were just added things to do. We love the spotless condition of the park and the deep, level, gravel sites with concrete patios and convenient full hookups. Anvil is convenient to everything, Williamsburg is just 3 miles away and Jamestown and Yorktown are about 20-25 minutes. All the retail conveniences are close too like Walmart, Lowes, Big Lots, Ross, Marshalls, even Trader Joes is not far. Local bus service is available at the entrance. The staff go out of their way to accommodate you. Family owned and operated! Need I say more. Lots of restaurants conveniently located. If you like Mexican try Taqueria Maria Bonita on Mooretown Rd. A small family owned restaurant in a strip center. Don't let appearances fool you. The food is fabulous, portions huge and reasonable pricing. You will not be able to see everything in Williamsburg in 3 days. Figure another day at Jamestown, Yorktown, the battle grounds and the town of Yorktown. Enjoy American history, live!”

I loved this small, family friendly campground. The staff are super nice, helpful and friendly. We stayed in a cabin which had a TV, microwave, fridge and small freezer. The beds were very comfortable. The showers and toilets were spotless and clean and looked new and modern. The pool was heated. We were comfy and happy and had everything we needed. So close to Colonial Williamsburg and restaurants and shops. Perfect place to stay. I saw some people complain about trains but they did not bother us at all, slept through them passing if any even passed at night. The gentle rumble in the morning was quite soothing. This is the nicest, friendliest campsite I've ever stayed at and we highly recommend staying here.”

The small on is kinda hidden at the front entrance. Then there’s the beach park playground. It has lots for kids of all ages to do. Zip line swing, hammocks, toddler spaces etc. The arcade/game room is nice. There’s different gaming consoles, board games, giant connect 4, toddler toys, and a small library. Staff is wonderful and seem to enjoy what they do. There’s free coffee and donuts on the weekend. Saturday night they had free snow cones. There’s always something going on and the staff has great recommendations. They are close to just about all the family attractions. We will be making this our go to camping spot for the area. Oh and the train! There’s a set of tracks right behind the tent camp spots. It didn’t bother us though. My toddler was excited to see it every time it went by. The place was amazing. The staff was friendly and very helpful when it came to getting around. When we pulled in David offered to help us. It’s a smaller park, very clean, bathhouse was one of the best I’ve ever used. They did train rides for the kids, snow cones & ice cream, all free. Their general store had more RV supplies than I’ve ever seen in a park. The bus made it easy to get around, shopping and restaurants were only minutes away. My kids took the bus to Busch gardens on their own. This will always be on our go to list!”

“Anvil is a quaint campground. Penny, the campground cashier who checked us in and saw us daily, was friendly and accommodating. Our site was spacious and shady. We were close to our visits to Williamsburg, Yorktown, and Jamestown. The tickets to Jamestown and Williamsburg with the museum were nice to purchase before our visit at the camp store. The passing trains were entertaining and you get use to them as you sleep. The weather was not good for swimming, but the pool looked clean and well kept. I'd stay again and recommend this campground.”

We stayed here a few years back and left some constructive feedback, which we were happy to see that they listened. The campground is beautiful and the service was excellent! We were treated to ice cream sandwiches hand delivered to our site and free coffee and donuts in the office. They hid little ducks around which were redeemed for candy. It is so close to Busch Gardens and we took advantage of the bus stop being right outside the campground. I’m so glad that we gave them another chance! We will definitely be back again.

We stayed at Anvil in July 2023, and couldn't have been happier with our experience. Everyone on the staff did their very best to ensure our enjoyable vacation, the restrooms were spotless, and the pool was comfortable and clean. The free game room was a blast for the kids and parents, too, and after a long day of sight-seeing it was lovely to use the 'relaxation area' with porch swings to curl up and read. I have to give kudos for a great playground, too - the zipline was awesome! This is an RVers paradise - easy to park our travel trailer on the clean and level sites, and the very small number of sites made for a quiet and relaxing stay. It was also in a great location for those visiting Williamsburg, Jamestown and Yorktown. Highly recommend, and we will be back!

This place is quite incredible! The staff is so welcoming and helpful! It was our first time using our camper so we had some bumps in the road and they were so willing to help out! They have a pool and a game room and the whole place is CLEAN! Restrooms, showers etc. All clean. Their general store has items in case you forget. I would definitely return here. It is close to attractions. People have said stuff about the train but honestly it was like once a day if that for 10 seconds. Highly highly recommend. Secret little gem!

Perfect campground location when visiting Busch Gardens
We recently stayed at this CG on deluxe site which was very nice with swing, picnic table/umbrella and fire pit so you did not need to set up anything. Yes there is a train but honestly at night with AC on, barely heard it... The CG is small but that makes it what it is known for. The pool, bathhouse, store was all perfectly adequate for anyone needs. Staff was great and helpful and ice cream socials were awesome! If anything, our kids said they had best game room ever as everything was free... Location is perfect to visit Busch Gardens and Williamsburg. Would stay again as the CG is what you make of it and the negative reviews are just wrong.

I have to add that this campground was absolutely the cleanest and had the friendliest staff we have ever experienced. The camp area may be small but its large in good spirit! Clean and well maintained pool! Store was well stocked. Arcade room was very joyful and well organized (all for free). Other camp areas could use this place to learn about customer service. I highly recommend this campground!

This is my favorite place to come we come and stay 6 or 7 times a year. My favorite time is our family vacation with our kids and grandkids in October. A day at bush gardens scream fest and then back to Anvil for playing in the amazing play area, my older grandkids love the game room, last year we're able to even go swimming in the heated pool. The kids had a blast trick r treating and we felt safe to let them wonder on their own being 11 and 8. The staff is amazing, helpful, very knowledgeable and always have things going on for the kids. This is my home away from home.

This was our first trip with our camper. Anvil was the perfect place to have our first trip. The campgrounds was wonderful. Because it was cold weather, it was quiet the bathrooms were absolutely phenomenal. We arrived with water issues in our camper and it was wonderful to take a nice hot shower in a clean bathroom. I also enjoyed the Camp store. Andrea gave us a recommendation for someone to help us with our camper issues. It panned out beautifully. Thank you so much for a wonderful experience. We arrived with our dog to stay in a cabin. Unfortunately, it was just not working for me the first night because of my health issues. I went the next morning and asked if we could switch to a cottage and pay the difference. They agreed; we swtiched to the blacksmith cabin. It was amazing. Clean, stocked, lovely in every way. Worth every penny. The campground was quiet, they were SO PET FRIENDLY, and the grounds were clean and attractive. The general store was incredible and so was the location; great food and stores all around plus super easy for us to get to Busch Gardens. My dog loved it as well and was welcomed and treated kindly. The workers were the best. Nice, knew what they were doing, worked hard, made everything so easy. Fair prices. Cant wait to go back in the summer! We came from nashville tn and wilmington nc for this trip. 10 out of 10.

This is a great little campground! We stayed here for the first time over the weekend for holiday festivities (and Busch Gardens/ Christmas Town) They had Santa there on a Friday night and hot chocolate and cookies for the kiddos. Almost all the sites were decorated for Christmas too!
All the staff we encountered were excellent and went above and beyond to check in on us and made sure we were happy with our site.
We were camping with a toddler and he loved the playgrounds and the trains passing through.
The bathrooms and grounds were also super clean!

We recently camped at Anvil Campground, and it was one of the best camping experiences we've had as a family so far. The staff there was incredibly friendly, and they really made all the campers feel welcome and invited. They take the time to make the experience fun and all inclusive. We went during one of their Halloween weekends, and they had planned a weekend full of fun and free things for our kids to do (ages 2 1/2 and 4 1/2). We really enjoyed the Halloween decorations and the time they put into them. My son also really loved the zip line in the beach playground and the game room. A lot of people have made a mention about how close the train is and for our family it was not a problem. My kids enjoyed seeing the train come by every now and then... 10/10 would recommend a stay here.

As others have mentioned, this campground backs right up to a train track- it can be loud and it will shake your rig a little. With that being said- one camped at over a hundred RV campgrounds and Anvil safety has a spot in my top 5 favorites. The staff is authentically friendly and helpful. Extremely dog and kid friendly, very nice modern facilities and close to all Williamsburg has to offer!

We stayed at the Anvil Campground in mid August 2023. We found it be very well maintained and the staff were outstanding. Very courteous and responsive. It was our first time out with our 40' Class A, we fit the site well and it was laid out nicely. Being a new RV, we found out the hard way that our shower had a leak. The staff let us borrow a caulk gun to make some temporary repairs. We are huge fans of Colonial Williamsburg (reason for our visit), and this campground is very, very close by. I am certain that we will be returning in the future.

Great small RV park. Sites were clean, bathrooms and grounds very well taken care of. Close to the Williamsburg, York Town and Jamestown areas. Great weekend activities for the kids and close restaurants and shops. Parking my 34 foot RV was no issue. Gravel payment and picnics table was great. It did include and fire ring. We were close to the train track but we enjoyed the sounds of the railroad and the kids loved seeing the train go by. Best customer service from the team members. They really do make this place feel quaint and peaceful.

This is a great RV park. Very family friendly. Ray is the manager and in the top 10 most polite and friendly people I’ve met. I called at the last minute and Ray was able to get me a spot for my Class C. When I arrived, Penny was here and changed my spot where no one was behind me to make it easier to get in and out. They have family activities and decorations and a great pool. The general store has a TON of RV supplies. Uber and Lyft can get here if you need to get to Busch Gardens. Absolutely recommend staying here if you’re in the area.

I also want to add that we were in a tent site (#8) and yes the train is loud but you get used to it. It really was not big deal.

“One of the Best Trips ever.”
What a wonderful trip. The campsites were roomy and located close to the store and pool. The staff was fantastic. Our Grandson Joshua had a blast and was in and out of the store several times a day. Ray and Penny were so kind to him. The store was well stocked with just about everything we needed. The staff went out of their way to accommodate our desire for an extra day at the last minute.

This summer they offered free coffee, donuts and ice cream, and were very generous with their time and answering questions. We had electricity and sewer for our small camper, and they are able to accommodate many types of campers and RVs. We will definitely be back as we have a child at William and Mary and the campground is exceedingly easy to get to within 10 minutes of campus.

What a fantastic campground. This was our first family trip to Busch Gardens and Water Country. We have a class c and needed to have transportation to and from each park. Anvil Campground is conveniently located to both. The bus shuttle picks up right at the campground. Perfect for us.
Our site, #70 was a premium patio with fire pit, picnic table with umbrella and swing. The site had full electrical hookup, sewer and water. Def the most modern RV/Marine hookup I’ve seen. The bath house/ bathrooms were extremely clean and well maintained as was the entire campground.
Kudos to this family for keeping up a legacy that started out as raw land. We will be back! Thank you

All the staff were very friendly and helpful. They were always smiling and asked if they could help everytime we saw them. The kids enjoyed the pool and game room. It kept them busy for hours. The bathrooms were clean and we'll maintained. Our cabin was the perfect size for us. It was also clean and not a long walk to the bathroom. This was our first visit to Anvil Campground and hopefully will not be our last. We had car trouble which could have ruined our trip all together, but the staff really went out of their way to try to help and make it better for us. I would definitely recommend Anvil campground to my friends and family!

We were only there for a short time, but the campground was clean and the staff was super friendly! The kids loved the free snow cones and ice cream on special days and times. What a great treat! There were also free crafts set out in the office for kids to take and enjoy. It is in a good location close to many restaurants and attractions. We have been too many campgrounds all up and down the east coast and this was definitely a special place that we have already booked a return visit to.

“Wonderful vacation”
We just left Anvil Campground after a 10 day stay. We had the best time with the kids and grandkids at the beginning of our trip and then extended our vacation so that my husband and I could enjoy the amenities on our own. This was our second stay and once again we found the staff super friendly and everything was clean. Loved the ice cream social and watching the kids on the barrel train. Already planning for out next visit.

Fantastic campground! Awesome staff. Everything was absolutely perfect! The campground was very clean, the bathrooms appeared to be newly remodeled, and more importantly they have very clean restrooms! My 7 year old fell in love with the unique zip line offered at the sand park. He also enjoyed the game room. Which by the way, offered an array of games at no additional cost! This place is a hidden gem and certainly one which we plan to revisit in the near future!!! Oh, and they also offered donuts and coffee on select days! When we originally checked in, the lady at the office offered my son a “welcome to the campground “ complimentary Ice-cream! He was very happy. Lastly, there is something magical about seeing the train pass behind the welcome center. Call me nostalgic, but I thought that was pretty awesome!!! :)

Five star experience to be honest - «««««
The general maintenance and grounds keeping are top notch. The staff is friendly and helpful. The sites are cozy, but not the smallest we’ve been wedged into. The trains exist and there’s nothing that anyone can do to change that, but they really didn’t affect our experience.
So let’s get a little deeper into each item:
*First, the trains (which the super nice folks at Anvil have zero control over and they clearly state on their website that the tracks are right beside the campground):
Could we hear the trains? Yes. About four times a day we heard the coal train (two full and two empty) and maybe twice a day we heard the Amtrak commuter train (pretty quiet and quite short as trains go.) The coal train is delivering to the power plant, so I wouldn’t complain even if it were twelve times a day...
NOW, ON TO THE IMPORTANT STUFF!
•The family/staff have been fantastic. They’re just really lovely, gracious people who are invested in making sure everyone has a good stay.
•Our site (51) lacked trees, which isn’t a deal breaker and wouldn’t be logical with the placement of the power lines (nothing Anvil can do about those.) The site was however, wonderfully level and even with a heavy downpour, it never flooded. It was a bit tight, but we are 38 feet long with three slides. We had plenty of space to set up our outdoor hammock, chairs, & a table, and could still move around easily. We certainly weren’t in the neighbors pockets.
**Of note- The shore power poles are some of the best we’ve seen in 15 years of RVing. Self contained (electric, water, and cable), easily accessed, well lit, and everything works!
•The quiet hours are quiet! It’s fantastic to stay in a campground that enforces this, we keep early hours for work so vacation sleep is special to us
•The bathhouse looks newly renovated and very well maintained and incredibly clean. Plenty of hot water and decent water pressure, which is iffy at a lot of campgrounds. We chose to shower there instead of filling up our gray water tank.
•The pool is on the small side, but plenty large enough for a relaxing dip and it’s heated. And again, the maintenance was spot on. We weren’t there for the pool anyway, but it’s always a nice amenity. The deck and furniture were kept clean and in good repair and their chair lift looked well maintained although we didn’t see anyone who needed to make use of it.
•Playgrounds looked good. Our 12 year old is ‘too old and too cool for it’ (her words) but I looked them over and they’re kept up as well as the rest of the property and the beach playground especially looked like more fun than an average playground.
•The camp store stocks a combo of merchandise/gifts and necessities. Plenty of variety so you’re unlikely to have to leave for something unless you really want to.
•The arcade isn’t going to win any awards, but it’s a nice large space with video games and several other activities (ping pong, giant jenga, pool table, basketball shooting game, etc….) and it’s all free to use!
•Bonus things like free snow cones, ice cream, popcorn, coffee & donuts are just that, a really great bonus! We thoroughly enjoyed the ones that we were able to catch. There are certain times for these bonus events and we opted to make the most use of the campgrounds’ proximity to Williamsburg, Busch Gardens and Water Country (about 15 minutes to each) in lieu of trying to catch every bonus. And you can donate to help MS research but you don’t have to; however, you should because it’s a really good cause.
We will definitely be back for Thanksgiving if not earlier!

Nearby activities: Only a 10-15 minute drive from Colonial Williamsburg, Yorktown beach, battlefield, and visitors center, Busch Gardens, and Water Country USA. The WATA bus service also goes to all of these locations from the campground and is reasonable at $3 per person per day for all you can ride…

We had a great stay at Anvil. Premium sites were great. Comes with concrete patio, fire ring, charcoal grill, swing, and table with umbrella. Nice and clean. Swimming pool was clean and heated. Free game room. From reading about the history of the campground, I would say their grandfather would be proud.

A couple of my favorite things:
1. Bathhouses - clean, pristine and comfortable! Best campground bathhouse goes to Anvil!
2. Staff - I LOVE that you have so many women on staff, that honestly made us feel a level of comfort that I don't think we ever even thought about before. They were all so sweet and helpful!
3. The general store - on top of the free coffee with donation option (saved my butt the first morning) the store is STOCKED! Not only did it have all the easy to forget items, but tums! It's like you know me or something!
We definitely plan to make a stop for our next quick getaway and we have already started telling our friends!

What an awesome little campground! My husband and I wanted to take our grandson camping but also wanted to be able to take our fur babies; we found that in this campground. We stayed in a cute little cabin that had everything we needed other than a personal restroom, however, that is just a few steps away. We had a fire at our campsite, there is a fire ring and the General Store sells firewood and lots of other needed items. I forgot breakfast stuff, but I found bacon and eggs at the General Store and at a great price. We have stayed at many campgrounds and I can tell you that the personal attention we received at Anvil Campground was phenomenal. We were given Ice cream, coffee and donuts, and Sno cones. This may not be something they do all of the time, I think they were participating in a Feed America campaign, I know they were taking donations and I was happy to drop some money in the collection bin.
The arcade cannot be beat by any campground anywhere! Pool table, shuffle board, foosball table, arcade game, Sega Genesis, PlayStation, basketball…there is even an outside basketball hoop. The best part…NO Money needed!!
I know this review is quite long but I always read reviews so I like to share what I can to help the next person. I would definitely recommend this campground, it’s nice and quiet and everyone is super friendly!

I loved the idea of a late checkout and how small the campground was. It’s was big enough without being overwhelming. Their premium sites were huge and has a great patio setup. The general store had a great supply of groceries as well as rv gear. The staff was exceptional. So friendly and knowledgeable. We drove 4 hours from Pennsylvania and not familiar with the area at all and they helped us out with any and all questions we had about the local places. 10/10 would recommend and will be coming back again.

We had a fantastic time at this campground. The staff here are some of the friendliest that we have ever met at any campground! You can tell that customer service is paramount for this staff, even before you check in. We received a telephone call while we were driving to the campground the day of our reservation just so that they could explain the check in process and answer any of the questions that we had. That is the only time that has ever happened for us, and it made a huge impact. We will be staying here again in the future and I highly recommend them to anyone reading this. Well done Anvil!!!
