Protecting Large Tropical Birds in Europe: Essential Habitats and Conservation Strategies

Habitats of Europe

Why do the local habitats look like they do, or why are those particular birds characteristic of them? For example, the other day I birded the Deliblato Sands Reserve, an hour east of Belgrade—the largest inland sand dunes area of Europe , covering 38,000 ha and holding valuable complexes of grazing pasture, steppe, woodland, and scrub.

Species and Habitats of the Natura 2000 Network

Species and Habitat of the Natura 2000 Network Species and habitats within the European Natura 2000 network are protected under two EU directives, as well as by national law through the Federal Nature Conservation Act (BNatSchG). These include European bird species covered by the " Birds Directive" of 1979 (Directive 79/409/EEC = Vogeschutz-Richtlinie) and the species and habitats listed under ...

List of birds of Europe More than 900 species of birds have been observed in Europe . The avifauna of Europe is broadly similar to that of Asia north of the Himalayas and North Africa, both of which also belong to the Palearctic realm. There are also many groups shared with North America.

Urbanization shapes bird communities and nest survival, but not their ...

For this reason, we examined (1) the differences in bird community compositions across different habitats with varied levels of urbanization (urban-suburban-rural gradient) in a mid-sized European city.

As outlined in the introduction, previous soundscape studies have examined the link between acoustic indices and habitat structural heterogeneity, the goal being that from increasing acoustic index values one can infer increasing habitat quality as it pertains to provisioning of habitats for birds .

The program includes all bird species which breed within Europe as well as migrants or winter visitors ...

Within similarly structured forest plots, bird assemblages showed responses linked with the landscape context, while plots with different habitat structure showed similar responses to the landscape context. In particular, there was a clear positive response of birds to the amount of broadleaf and mixed forest cover in the landscape.
