Simulation-Based Evaluation of Wireless Network Handover: Key Insights and Optimization Strategies

Media Independent Handover and Mobile IPv6

With the support of this suite, the research community can quickly develop the heterogeneous wireless network simulation script followed by the textual and graphical results of handover , packets sent and received, throughput, packet delay, and jitter.

Network simulator (ns-3) is a reputed simulation platform for performance evaluation of cellular networks . In this work, we explore the use of ns-3 for tracking of successful handovers (HO) and handover failures and consequent impact on 4G LTE network throughput with the aim of discovering new analytical relations about HOs and new methods to ...

Simulation and evaluation : We set up a simulation testbed under realistic mobility, fading, and interference conditions, compare our mechanism against conventional threshold & TTT based schemes, and measure key performance indicators (KPIs) such as handover success rate, latency, packet loss, throughput, and ping-pong rate.

Simulation based Analysis of Reliable and Fast Hand-off in Wireless Networks Abstract: Hand-off sometimes also known as hand-over , is the process in which various mobile nodes while in a running network do the process to select the best available access point for transferring the data. The study of hand-off mechanism is possible in wireless ...

PDF Performance Analysis of Handover Scenario in Wireless Communication

This paper presents an in-depth performance analysis of handover scenarios in GSM (2G), CDMA (2.5G), and LTE (4G) systems, employing both software simulations using NetSim and hardware demonstrations via a Simnovus network emulator.

A high-level handover simulator written in Python that consumes those traces and runs different handover decision algorithms. This architecture decouples the physical-layer simulation from the algorithmic evaluation : ns-3 traces are generated once and reused across all handover algorithms.

The Media Independent Handover is a standard proposed by IEEE 802.21 working group for enabling handover in heterogeneous wireless networks [10]. It provides link-layer intelligence and other network related network information to upper layers to optimize handovers between heterogeneous networks [11].
