Toyota brought back the X-Runner name from the past and applied it to a 2024 Tacoma sport-truck concept with a lowered suspension and extra power, among other modifications. In 2005, Toyota released a special edition of their Tacoma pickup truck, called the X-Runner. This model was meant to be a more performance-oriented version of the Tacoma, and it came with a number of special features and upgrades.

Production of the X-Runner was limited to just a few thousand units, making it a rare and sought. With the Tacoma X-Runner concept, Toyota ditched the trailhead for the turnpike, creating a mean. The Toyota Tacoma X-Runner is a specialty trim produced between 2005 and 2014, engineered for on-road performance.

But just what separates the model apart from a run-of-the-mill Tacoma? The X-Runner Tacoma, originally named for its chassis-stiffening X-brace, includes several factory-tuned modifications that gear the trim toward on-road performance rather than the model's characteristic off. Toyota Tacoma X-Runner Concept Toyota's engineering and design teams worked together to create the X-Runner Concept, a modern version of the beloved sports truck from years ago. Toyota revived the X-Runner name and applied it to a concept version of the 2024 Tacoma, debuting it at the 2023 SEMA Show.

It is fitted with a modified version of the i-Force Max V6 engine utilized by the larger Tundra and Sequoia, as well as the Tundra's air suspension that allows the Tacoma X. A key item carried over from the Tundra is the twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V-6. It features 421 hp in the Tacoma X-Runner concept, or 32 hp more than what the engine delivers in the Tundra.

The X-Runner concept's interior features red seats, paddle shifters, and custom X-Runner accents, but that's it. We don't think Toyota has any plans to bring a production version of the Tacoma X. Toyota unveiled their 2024 Tacoma X-Runner concept at SEMA 2023.

The project was created by Exterior Chief Designer Adam Rabinowitz at Calty Design Studio along with builders Maurice Russell, Alex Boraggina, David Ferris, Bryan Tank, and Gary Limron. At the heart of the project is a twin.
