Step-by-Step Instructions
1. Cut the Legs and Braces
Using a circular saw, cut the 2x4 lumber boards into 29.5-inch legs and 12-inch braces. You'll need eight of each.

2. Assemble the Legs and Braces
Apply exterior wood glue to the ends of the braces and attach them to the legs using 2.5-inch screws. Ensure the braces are perpendicular to the legs and form a 90-degree angle. Clamp the pieces together while the glue dries.
3. Create the Supports
Cut the remaining 2x4 lumber into 11.5-inch supports. You'll need eight supports in total.
4. Build the Table Base
Attach the supports to the legs and braces using 2.5-inch screws, creating a sturdy octagon frame. Ensure the base is level and square.

5. Install the Center Post
Cut the 6-foot 4x4 post into a 12-inch base plate. Attach the base plate to the center of the table base using 2.5-inch screws. Then, attach the 60-inch center post to the base plate using stainless steel or galvanized hardware.
6. Attach the Tabletop Slats
Cut the 2x6 lumber into 47-inch slats. Lay them across the table base, spacing them evenly apart. Secure the slats to the base using 1.25-inch screws.
7. Finish the Table (Optional)
Apply an outdoor wood stain or paint to protect and enhance the appearance of your octagon picnic table. Allow the finish to dry completely before using the table.
