The plumbing for the rain shower is in the ceiling, and the valves for that (and for the showerhead at the other end of the shower) are on the long shower wall perpendicular to the wall with the pocket door. The shower door is opposite the valves, and, as Mr Grenz says, is hinged on the side away from the pocket door. It would need to slide behind the rear wall of the shower, opposite the side with all the plumbing. There isn't enough space to slide the door that. The biggest concern with installing a pocket door in your shower wall is deflection.

How do you keep the grout lines from cracking when you lean on the tile wall? There is a shower with one of the three walls against a pocket door. HO was told by previous contractor that they'd just throw up a 5/8 sheet of plywood and then cement board.

I dont think that's going to fly, but are there other ways to have a tiled wall with a strong enough substrate to allow for a safe tile install? The shower is 48" x 36" rough frame. There is about 32" of the pocket door framing on the right hand side of shower wall.
