I'll start by saying that I picked up this table on Amazon after seeing it in a random Discord server. I'm in no way affiliated with the company that makes this table; this review is purely for the benefit of my fellow gamers. I actually picked this up.

If you have a decent board game collection, put some boxes which are all the same height on top of the table and put a tablecloth over them. One layer should get you 2-3 inches of height. Sit in the chair and see how uncomfortable that feels, keeping in mind some people may be shorter than you.

I have a room dedicated to gaming, which contains nothing but shelves full of games and then a big ol' game table in the middle. I think it's fantastic for gaming, but it would be a huge hassle if I used it for anything else, as mentioned by above posters. In the Duchess' defense, the table is around 8 years old now.

Gamefound - Jade Board Game Table It looks nice, is on the cheaper side for board game tables, and has topper leafs, which should make taking it off and on easier. I'm playing fairly light games right now.

And my list is mostly introductory/essential games. I think the biggest space hogs on my list are Small World and Ticket to Ride. I'm a long way away from going to expansive games like Eldritch Horror or Scythe.
