Kentland, Indiana, is home to one of the larger meteorite craters in the United States, with the area of ground disturbance coming in at more than 7 miles in diameter. You wouldn't know it though, without the quarry that's there now. Like most of northern Indiana, the ground surface is covered with glacial till.

It is intended to lead visitors through the spectacular, three-dimensional outcrops in the central uplift of the structure, exposed in the Newton County Stone (Kentland) Quarry, western Indiana. During a trip to Newton County Stone Quarry I collected several interesting peices of shatter cones with my local geology club. After our tour we also saw a 1200 lbs shatter cone that was found at the quarry! It was found in the same time frame a much large speci men was found that was donated to the Indiana state museum.
