Understanding Maya's Reset Options

Maya offers two types of resets: a soft reset and a hard reset. A soft reset clears temporary files and cache, while a hard reset reverts all settings to their default values.

The first step in resetting Maya to factory defaults involves deleting the contents of the Maya preferences folder. This folder stores all of Maya's custom settings and preferences.

To locate the preferences folder:

  1. Close Maya if it's currently open.
  2. Navigate to your user directory (e.g., C:\Users\YourUsername on Windows or /home/YourUsername on Linux/Mac).
  3. Locate the '.maya' folder and open it.
  4. Delete the contents of the 'Preferences' folder, but keep the folder itself.
