I already have most of the SW20 workshop manuals in PDF format. The best source we have is an interview with Akio who basically confirmed the development of the mr2 and the new celica, and then an insider leak that talked to best motoring in Japan saying it'll be the last non electrified sports car from Toyota, using a tuned version of the GR 3 pot making 300. So we have competing rumors that the GR86 will be converted to a Lexus-derived RWD platform and get the GR Corolla's engine, and we'll get a new MR2 with the GR Corolla's engine.
I'd love both to be true, but it seems unlikely Toyota is going to spend that much money on two in. So, what are your thoughts? Is the Toyota MR2 a good first car? Are there any particular things I should be aware of before making a purchase? Is there a specific year I should get it getting the car is a good idea? As with the RWD you will be sliding about fairly easy in the rain which isn't ideal for a new driver. I'm looking for a project mr2, but having a hard time finding anything that is a reasonable price online. Just curious where you all have found your car and what you've paid (if you are comfortable sharing that info).

There is also A LOT of cross compatibility with other Toyota's. Frequently I'll find a dealer lists an MR2 part as discontinued or out of stock, but after some research I'll find a compatible part with a different PN used on another Toyota that is stocked. First you buy a newer Toyota 4 cylinder that was offered stock with an awd transaxle. Next you'll have to rotate the mr2 drive train 180* so the prop shaft that faces rearward on the front engine awd donor car, Faces forward in your now rear engine awd mr2.
