This stunning Brutalist house is a marvel of geometry and greenery. With its angular concrete layers and expansive glass windows, its like a giant, modernist sculpture thats decided to settle down and take root in the forest. The idea was a cabin in the woods, but the cabin is a cube-like Brutalist structure and the woods are Caada De Alferes, an hour outside of Mexico City.

I wanted the house to look like a cube which would have crashed on the floor, among the trees, explains Mexico City-based French architect Ludwig Godefroy. The building was designed in the brutalist style with some elements of structuralism and constructivism. My girlfriend is an architect and I know some details around brutalist architecture, but I still struggle a lot with assigning what buildings are falling under what categories of architecture. Drawing inspiration from a cabin nestled in the woods, the house is designed as a secure, concrete haven that provides both shelter and connection to nature. Dreamt up by architect Ludwig Godefroy (who is French but has lived in country for 15 years) as an impenetrable vault that makes its isolation feel both mystical and safe, this Brutalist home in Mexico occupies a sloping plot of land in Caada de Alfrez.
