Previously have seen "battery low" message but never this one. Since was starting a 125 mile trip with at least 2 stops planned, replaced allegedly spent CR2032 battery (which measured at 3.027V) with a new one measuring about 3.27V. Fair enough.

So this comes up on my dashboard, and I think. If my battery is empty on my vehicle key, how would it know that my vehicle key is here in the vehicle? Also, how does it let me start if there is no battery in my vehicle key? I replaced the battery with the proper model battery, and had the same. The auto shop knows me pretty much as the key battery guy by now, so they pop in 2 new batteries and off I go.

So I went and bought a replacement battery, opened up the key, changed the battery, done. Tried to remotely unlock the car, works without a problem. but then I got into the car and wanted to start the motor, but after pressing the start button I only get a message, that no key is present.
Powered ignition OFF/ON and Attempted key battery exchange of new key (this often works in smart-key Mercedes vehicle we get with erroneous "replace key battery" messages). No change. "Vehicle key: battery empty" displayed.
No remote or keyless entry functions. Run. I've been getting this warning for about a week, "Remote Control Battery is Empty".
It flashes up for 2-3 seconds when I start the car, and then goes away. I assume it is a false warning, as the Control Check system shows no problems. The car is less than a year old, it's unlikely the fob.
Much to my dismay, I got the alert again yesterday, about 4 months after I last changed the battery. My last BMW's key fobs lasted much longer. The key fobs for another one of my previous cars lasted well over 7 years on the original battery; car passed on to relative so I'm aware of the current condition.
