I decided I eventually want to pick up an old BMW for a weekend driver. Went back and forth looking at e39/e46/e36 options for a bit before being intrigued by e30s. Really like the e30 325is, is this the way to go? Budget around $20k which seems more than enough for a decent example in USA.

Or the much cooler sleeper M3 in the E30 320is. The 320i was a way to get a more prestigious 6-cylinder, but with the lowest cost. These days I'd agree with you.

Ideally get a 318 or 323/325. Get a 316 if you just want the cheapest E30 looking thing. 320i if it's going for cheap.
