Jerry Chair Camping

No-Sew Tyvek Jerry Chair/Ground Cloth Got a little DIY this afternoon and finally made the Tyvek Jerry Chair/Ground Cloth that I've been wanting to do since reading the original Jerry Chair thread. I decided to go for a full length chair to keep the legs out of the dirt when sitting and provide more area under the tarp in ground cloth mode. Lightweight and easy to build backpacking chair that uses your trekking poles for support.

I think it will be a simple matter to add some 'pockets' as illustrated in the first picture so that a one person groundsheet can do double duty as an ultralight chair with the addition of a couple of hiking poles (as shown) or a couple of broken off sticks. Maybe a couple of webbing straps need to be added. I will experiment.

A sling type chair which uses trekking poles and sit pad, which you are carrying anyway. The Jerry Chair doesn't sit up off the ground & therefore wouldn't meet the OP's specs.

Personally, I'd snatch up 3 legged stool sans back if it weighed in the neighborhood of 8 ouces or less. I thru-hiked this past summer and now I'm at school wishing I was back on the trail! Last year I made a DIY Jerry chair out of some basic ripstop nylon from Joann Fabrics. It was always comfy- with it's built-in sleeve for my Thermarest Lite sit pad.

But I didn't like always having to sit on the ground. Plus, the hassle of getting in and out while keeping the trekking poles in place was always a bit of a nuisance. The weight was great, however.

I decided to create a modular. This chair would be ideal for the backpack hunter. (You probably already carry a saw - but the little one mentioned above might replace it!) At least one of these chairs would fit in one of my ultralight tents such as the Grey Flyer or Deerhunter's Tent #2 out of the rain and in front of a warm fire.
