Fire Tv Stick 3rd Gen Xda
Read this whole guide before starting. This is for the 3rd gen Fire TV Stick (sheldonp) and Fire TV Stick Lite (sheldon). NOTE: FireOS < 7.2.7.3 required NOTE: This process does not require you to open your device.
What you need: A Linux. If you own a 3rd generation Fire TV Stick or its Lite variant and aren't satisfied with the out-of-the-box software experience, you can now swap the Amazon firmware for the source. Require FireOS < 7.2.7.3.
This guide is written for a deice that has not yet been set up. As the devs say: " This is for the 3rd gen Fire TV Stick (sheldonp) and Fire TV Stick Lite (sheldon).". The 3rd-gen Fire TV Stick and the Fire TV Stick Lite have been rooted.
XDA forum user k4y0z has posted instructions for how to root either device, which currently requires the Firestick be on Fire OS version 7.2.7.3 or older. As the dev say " This is for the 3rd gen Fire TV Stick (sheldonp) and Fire TV Stick Lite (sheldon)." All the credits goes to the devs, this is only a guide because I've spent a lot of time fixing all the issues and I hope that someone will find this useful. LineageOS 18.1 which is based on Android 11 can now be installed on the 3rd Gen Amazon Fire TV stick devices using root and TWRP.
The (unofficial) LineageOS 18.1 builds which are based upon Android TV 11 and can be flashed on the Fire TV stick come courtesy of XDA Forum member Rortiz2. A new rooting method is available for the 2nd & 3rd gen Cubes. It can easily be run on the Cube to gain temporary root access, and used to disable all the package protections so that any apps can be enabled/disabled again without root.
Use this to get custom launchers working, app debloating, blocking OTA updates etc. The latest and exclusive Fire TV Stick coverage from XDA. Anyone with a rooted Fire OS 5 device, including the 1st and 2nd-gen Fire TV boxes and the 1st and 2nd-gen Fire TV Sticks, can now update to software version 5.2.7.3.
