One of my favorite characters in the movie is Trinidad Silva (photo,) who plays Leo "Frog" Lopez. Silva died the same year Colors came out but what I didn't know is that he died while shooting Weird Al Yankovic's UHF. Apparently he was in a car collision in Whittier and a drunk driver ended his career.

A confident young cop is shown the ropes by a veteran partner in the dangerous gang-controlled barrios of Los Angeles, where the gang culture is enforced by the colors the members wear. Because the gangs represent a good deal of what little authority and structure survives in their neighborhoods, they help to set the tone for a segment of society - a tone of desperation, despair and reckless, doomed grandiose gestures. Trinidad Silva, Jr. (January 30, 1950 - July 31, 1988) was an American comedian and character actor who played small supporting roles in a number of films of the 1980s.
