Sailor Moon Skin Color

One of the defining physical traits of Sailor Pluto, in the anime and manga series, 'Sailor Moon,' is her dark complexion. A subreddit for fans of the Sailor Moon franchise. Personally, I appreciate the diversity in character designs, so good on her! But most interesting to me is the side note at the bottom, written by Ms. Takeuchi. This is the Materials Collection.

It's a compilation of Naoko's sketches and ideas for the Sailor Moon manga. As you can see, she was trying to figure out how to illustrate Sailor Pluto's skintone in black and white, and how to translate it to color. How else is one suppose to portray that character trait without color.

So comparing the comic strip art to actual colored art is really unfair because when Naoko colored Pluto in full on color she never colored her as dark as she did in the black & white pages. Sailor Moon Crystal's art designs are actually based on the Kazenban edition covers. Sailor Moon (Classic, R) - She had a crescent moon insignia on her red choker, the tops of her boots, and also had her transformation brooch in the center of her front bow.

Her dominant color was blue (collar and skirt) and her accent color was red (bows, boots, gloves, and choker). Her boots were knee. A possible explanation has been given as to why the 2000s DVD version of the classic "Sailor Moon" series has a pink tint "aesthetic," a topic recently sparked discussions on social media.

For Sailor Moon, it's not a Mandela effect situation because the pink hue comes from film deterioration. A similar color issue happened with the anime Dragon Ball Z, a Japanese animated show. What are Sailor Moon's colors? Coming from the original anime, I always thought of Moon's original costume colors as blue and red.

I have seen some manga images, however, where the "red" parts of her costume appear more like a dark pink. Sailor Pluto was definitely darker in Stars than she was in the previous seasons. There's not much difference from her skin tone and the other Outer Senshi's skin tones from R through S and the movies.
