Hell's Kitchen Vs Upper West Side

The higher end buildings in Hell's Kitchen are usually really far West and in my opinion super inconvenient, and it simultaneously feels too close to Midtown. You can likely get a decent new place on the UWS with that budget too and be closer to good train stations like 59th or 72nd. Time square towards Hells kitchen ie Midtown West would not be my choice over the upper West side.

I don't think Midtown West/Hells kitchen is unsafe or has lots of junkies. Hell's Kitchen, also known as Clinton, or Midtown West on real estate listings, is a neighborhood on the West Side of Midtown Manhattan in New York City, New York. I did find a few in Hells Kitchen, around 49-55th street and 9th ave (Columbus). I was curious how Hells Kitchen is compared to the UWS where we stayed last summer? Family with two young kiddos. We are thinking either staying at a hotel in Times Square toward Hell's Kitchen (because everything is so near -- but not sure about safety/junkies? if any? we've been to SF recently so we were thinking of similar situation) or Upper West Side (maybe more walkable neighborhood but everything is not as close/convenient).

[3] Like. One of the other things the UWS has going for it is that it's on the west side of Manhattan. I personally prefer the neighborhoods of the west side- Hell's Kitchen, Chelsea (where I live now), west village- and it's super easy to pop downtown on the 1/2/3 or a/c/e.

1/2/3 trains would be convenient to get you straight to work. In Hell's Kitchen, Basta Grill is a fast casual Moroccan restaurant.
