Hey all, I just moved to NYC and have been aware of a seemingly cool looking place called Basement. I was thinking about buying tickets to an event or two this month but it became clear through the 1:1 ratio of 5 stars to 1 stars on Google that they have some ridiculous door policy in a possible attempt to emulate Berghain.
Basement's door policy has been increasingly controversial, but as a frequent NYC techno club goer who had never had any issues, I was kind of gleefully oblivious. I showed up to last Saturday's Fadi Mohem show without a ticket around 2:30 to enjoy the music, prompted by some of my friends who were going to celebrate 4AM NYC's birthday (she was djing in the Studio 12-2). Tried to enter solo.
The club sits directly below the sprawling Knockdown Center in the Maspeth section of Queens, and its dungeon-like interior returns to form the industrial and sultry aesthetic that once comprised NYC nightlife. Two separate dance floors take center stage, surrounded by concrete pillars, old factory doors, and arched brick windows. 70K Followers, 19 Following, 6 Posts - @basementclub.us on Instagram: "Based In NYC 📍 Sign Up For SMS For Exclusive Discount check link below to purchase ⬇️".
