Dr. Rajendra Prasad (1884–1963) was a towering freedom fighter, a key leader of the Indian National Congress, and the first President of independent India. A brilliant lawyer by profession, he abandoned a lucrative career to join Mahatma Gandhi's Non-Cooperation Movement. He played a pivotal role in organizing the Champaran Satyagraha in 1917, which cemented his position as a crucial leader in India's struggle for self-rule.
Prasad served as the President of the Constituent Assembly, meticulously guiding the drafting of India’s Constitution. Elected as the nation's head of state in 1950, he remains the only president to serve two full terms, setting vital democratic precedents. Renowned for his simplicity, integrity, and scholarship, he was awarded the Bharat Ratna in 1962.
