As of 2024, more than 330 people are known to have died on Mount Everest since climbers began attempting to reach its summit in the early 20th century. The death toll has steadily risen over the years, with common causes including avalanches, falls, extreme cold, altitude sickness, and sheer exhaustion! Many of the bodies remain on the mountain, particularly above the “Death Zone” (8,000 meters or 26,247 feet), where the dangerously low oxygen levels make recovery missions extremely challenging and hazardous. Despite these dangers, Mount Everest continues to draw hundreds of climbers each year.
