In this video, I take on the exciting challenge of restoring a 1990's Engel campaign fridge.
Watch as I carefully revive this classic piece, bringing it back to its former glory. My Engel is 11 years old now, never had an issue with it, runs just as good as it did when I bought it, uses around 3a while running and doesn't cycle often once its cold. I have the extra insulation bag around mine.
I dont know what new ones are like but mine is very basic, temperature control is a 0-5 dial (0 = off, 1 = fridge, 5 = freeze). I found an old Engel on market place for a pretty good deal. The owners says that she bought it 6-7 years ago.
Engels supposedly run forever but I'm still worried that it'll prematurely die on me. Anybody have any experience with these older Engels? Giving Engel an unparalleled advantage, as they're intimately involved in the design and manufacturing process and have been for the past six decades. Just like an Engel fridge, the motor hasn't demanded much maintenance over the years. Testament to their forward thinking and commitment at the time, little has needed updating.
I'm highlighting the Engel MT35 because it served me so incredibly well for a quarter of a century. It's currently in the garage, plugged into an AC outlet and set to max-freeze, keeping bags of ice frozen for margaritas. It has been reliable over the years but it has been unused in my garage for about 5 years, I turned it on today as my granddaughter is going away camping. The motor is running but it does not cool. Don't know its worth but we just sent 4 to the Public Trustee auction that were 40 litre models.
