The Last Temptation of Christ is a 1988 epic religious drama film directed by Martin Scorsese. Written by Paul Schrader, with uncredited rewrites from Scorsese and Jay Cocks, it is an adaptation of Nikos Kazantzakis ' controversial 1955 novel of the same name. Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, is led into the desert. Like a snake, the devil tempts him to prove he is God and use his power. He dares Jesus to turn stones into bread and offers to trade all the kingdoms of the world, if Jesus will worship him.
While in the wilderness for 40 days, Jesus is tempted three times by Satan. Jesus rebukes Satan the final time by saying, "Thou shall not tempt the Lord thy God.". After Jesus has been baptized, He's led by the Spirit into the desert.
