Once the film industry moved toward technicolor, Mickey needed a new look. It started with making his shorts red and making his face more flesh-colored. As the years went on, his pie-eyes changed to regular white and his outfits changed depending on the cartoon.

This detail later becomes synonymous with vintage Mickey drawings, and resurfaces throughout the years as a tip of the cap to Mickey's legacy. It's so iconic that there might even be a special red made just for this color. The yellow color that follows it is a detail that we see on his shoes. The other colors are black and white, but that's normal, because this is a character that's almost 100 years old.

The pie eyed Mickey was a byproduct of black-and white only era print. Many hand drawn anthapoporphic characters had pie-eyes in those days. Once Mickey entered the world of color, the pie-eyes were, for the post part, history.
