The trolls are part of a continuing project by Dambo to create a "Troll Map" across the Ocean State, encouraging people to search and discover each of the trolls hidden around the state. Last year, artist Thomas Dambo brought two large troll sculptures made of recycled materials to Ninigret Park in Charlestown. Tucked away in the forest, these giant wooden trolls delight visitors in Charlestown, Rhode Island.
So the other weekend, I took a spontaneous drive out to Charlestown, Rhode Island - not really expecting much beyond some beach air and maybe a coffee by the water. But then I stumbled on something that felt straight out of a fairy tale: massive, hand-built wooden trolls hiding in the woods at Ninigret Park. [].
It's what makes this sculpture uniquely Rhode Island. Dambo used what looked to be parts of wooden pallets, straw, sticks, stones, quahog and conch shells and other natural items to create the trolls.
