The Laplace transform turns a differential equation into an algebraic one. F(s) = ℒ{f(t)} = ∫₀ e⁻ˢᵗ f(t) dt The table pairs 1 with 1/s, t with 1/s², tⁿ with n!/sⁿ⁺¹, e^{at} with 1/(s - a), sin(ωt) with ω/(s² + ω²), cos(ωt) with s/(s² + ω²), sinh(at) with a/(s² - a²), and cosh(at) with s/(s² - a²). The derivative rules are the whole point: ℒ{f′(t)} = sF(s) - f(0), so differentiation becomes multiplication by s, with ℒ{f″(t)} = s²F(s) - sf(0) - f′(0) and integration dividing by s.
