Standard Deviation Explained Simply for Data Science
Standard Deviation Explained Simply for Data Science
University - STANDARD DEVIATION (SD) Standard deviation measures how spread out the data are around the mean (average). It shows the typical distance of observations from the mean. WHAT SD TELLS US: • Small SD → values are close to the mean. • Large SD → values are widely dispersed. • SD = 0 → all observations are identical. • SD is expressed in the same units as the original data. • SD alone does NOT tell you whether data are normally distributed. EXAMPLE: Two groups can have the same mean but different SDs. Group A: Mean = 70, SD = 3.2 → values are close to 70. Group B: Mean = 70, SD = 12.8 → values are more widely spread. COMMON MISCONCEPTIONS: ❌ SD is not the same as the mean. ❌ A larger SD does not mean the mean is larger. ❌ SD does not tell you the shape of the distribution. ❌ SD is not the same as variance. Variance = SD² TAKEAWAY: Standard deviation tells you how much the data vary or spread around the mean. It is a key measure of variability in research and data analysis. | Facebook

Standard Deviation Interpretation Of Outliers

Intro To Standard Deviation

Standard Deviation: A 5 Step Process 1. Calculate the mean. 2. Calculate the differences from the mean. 3. Square these differences from the mean. 4. Find mean of square differences (variance) 5. Take square root of the deviance. Source: The Math Dude

Want to learn how to detect outliers in data analysis? 🤔 Outliers are extreme values that can affect your results — so identifying them is very important for accurate analysis. 📊 METHODS TO DETECT OUTLIERS 🔹 IQR Method (Most Used) 👉 Uses quartiles to find extreme values 🔹 Z-Score Method 👉 Detects values far from the mean (Z > ±3) 🔹 Boxplot Method 👉 Outliers appear outside whiskers 🔹 Visualization Method 👉 Scatter plots & histograms help spot unusual values 📈 WHY IT MATTERS ✔ Improves data accuracy ✔ Avoids wrong conclusions ✔ Helps in better decision making #Biostatistics #Outliers #DataAnalysis #StatisticsForBeginners #ExcelAnalysis

How does an outlier affect the mean, median, mode, or range? Does it always have an effect? What predictions can you make about how the outlier will affect these measures? These 6 quick and easy tables will help you students make generalizations (such as a larger

What is an outlier in data analysis? 🤔 👉 Outliers are values that are very different from the rest and can affect your results. 📈 WHY OUTLIERS MATTER ✔ Can distort the mean (average) ✔ Can lead to wrong conclusions ✔ Important to detect before analysis 📊 SIMPLE EXAMPLE Data: 10, 12, 11, 13, 50 👉 Here, 50 is an outlier because it is far from other values #Biostatistics #Outliers #DataAnalysis #StatisticsForBeginners #ExcelAnalysis
