Pascalโs triangle is a geometric arrangement of binomial coefficients. The entry C(n,r) counts how many ways r objects can be chosen from a set of n, giving every number in the triangle a combinatorial meaning. The addition rule follows by separating those choices into two groups. A chosen object is either included or excluded, producing C(n-1,r-1)+C(n-1,r)=C(n,r). The triangle is symmetric because choosing r objects is equivalent to choosing the n-r objects left out. Each row supplies the coefficients of a binomial expansion, and its sum is 2^n because a set of n elements has 2^n possible subsets. These coefficients are used throughout probability, combinatorics, algebra, and statistical modeling.
