Triangle Inequality: Discovery Lesson
The triangle inequality says a detour is never shorter than going straight. ‖u + v‖ ≤ ‖u‖ + ‖v‖ Equality holds exactly when u and v are parallel and point the same way; in the general case the direct vector u + v is strictly shorter than following u then v. The same statement reappears for real numbers as |a + b| ≤ |a| + |b| and for integrals as |∫f| ≤ ∫|f|, with the reverse form ‖u‖ − ‖v‖ ≤ ‖u − v‖ often the more useful of the two. This single inequality is what makes a distance a distance.

Triangles are among the most fundamental shapes in geometry, and their properties help us understand countless mathematical and real-world concepts. One of the most important properties of triangles is expressed through the Triangle Inequality Theorem — a principle that determines whether three given line segments can form a triangle.

Triangular Inequality In Complex Numbers
Pascal’s triangle is a geometric arrangement of binomial coefficients. The entry C(n,r) counts how many ways r objects can be chosen from a set of n, giving every number in the triangle a combinatorial meaning. The addition rule follows by separating those choices into two groups. A chosen object is either included or excluded, producing C(n-1,r-1)+C(n-1,r)=C(n,r). The triangle is symmetric because choosing r objects is equivalent to choosing the n-r objects left out. Each row supplies the coefficients of a binomial expansion, and its sum is 2^n because a set of n elements has 2^n possible subsets. These coefficients are used throughout probability, combinatorics, algebra, and statistical modeling.

Consider The Triangle Inequality
This is a great way to review the Triangle Sum Theorem. Students look at different triangles and calculate the missing angle in each. They do not need protractors and should use subtraction and addition. This is a great way to review and works wonderfully as a filler activity. There are three sets of worksheets and answer keys are included.
This color by number geometry-trigonometry activity is an engaging way to review your students understanding of special right triangles (both 45-45-90 and 30-60-90 triangles). Students will have to recall the properties for each special right triangle to determine the value of the missing leg. Math can be fun & therapeutic with this color-by-number activity! I hope this resource serves you & your students well!
