Immerse yourself in the delightful world of origami. Today, we're crafting a beast straight out of the Mesozoic era, a dinosaur! Our step-by-step guide ensures you'll have a roaring success, even if you're new to the art of paper folding. Let's dive right in, shall we?

Origami, the ancient Japanese art of paper folding, allows us to transform a simple sheet of paper into an array of intricate forms. Among these, dinosaurs remain a favorite among enthusiasts and beginners alike, due to their fun and rewarding nature to fold.

The Classic Origami Dinosaur
The classic origami dinosaur, or 'waterbomb', is an iconic standby. It's a simple fold that results in a brilliantly recognizable outcome.

Let's break down this little monster into bite-sized instructions:
The Waterbomb Base

The waterbomb base is the foundation of our dinosaur. To start, crease a square-shaped piece of paper in half diagonally to form a triangle, then unfold. Next, crease in half along the other diagonal and unfold. You've now created an 'X' crease. Fold the paper in half horizontally and vertically, then unfold. Squeeze the paper from the corners to the middle, flattening the sides. To finish, pull the four corners into the center, making a smaller square. Give it a squeeze, and you've got your waterbomb base!
To convert this base into a dinosaur, we'll mainly use reverse folds and pleats:
Forming the Dinosaur's Tail

Locate the 'pocket' on one side of your waterbomb base. This is the tail of your dinosaur. With your fingers, make a small crease on the top layer, then unfold. Next, pull the two sides of the base to open up the pocket. Fold the bottom tip of the pocket up to meet the new crease, forming your dinosaur's tail!
Adding Detail with Kites and Squares
For a more dynamic dinosaur, we can incorporate kite bases and squares to create arms, legs, and even a spine plate!

The Kite Base
A kite base is another fundamental origami shape. Start with another square of paper. Fold it in half diagonally, then unfold. Fold in half along the other diagonal and unfold. Bring the two points to the center and flatten them. Fold the paper in half horizontally to create a thin kite shape.

To transform this into your dinosaur's front legs, bring the top two points to the center. Crease and unfold, then pull the bottom tips up to your new creases. Repeat with the back two points for the hind legs.
The Square Base
Fold your paper in half diagonally, then unfold. Do the same with the other diagonal. Fold in half horizontally and vertically. Fold the paper in half diagonally towards the center, then flatten. Bring the tip to the center and crease, creating a square base for your dinosaur's spine plate.
Take one side of the square, pull it over to the center, and crease. Repeat with the other three sides to create your dinosaur's spine. Attach this to the back of your dinosaur for added stability and detail.
