If he is using the toilet brush, then he's probably in process of cleaning the bathroom, signs of a person with sanitary habits (not to mention a helpful housemate). He has probably used toilet bowl disinfectant cleaner so that the brush is already disinfected. I applaud his extra effort to thoroughly clean the brush by running it under hot.

I spray & wipe the handle, spray the brush with cleaner and rinse with the flush and leave to dry over the toilet (put the seat down to hold it in place) while it's drying I spray & wipe out the holder. I got a silicone brush with big bristles so nothing can really build up on it or get stuck to it or stain it! I use the disposable ones preloaded with cleaner.

I use a paper towel soaked in vinegar for the hard water stains. I use very few disposable items in my home, but the ick factor of toilet bowl cleaning makes this one worth it, imo. Rinse the brush after each use by holding it under the flow from the toilet flush (can see others have already said that).

Every 4 weeks when we do our Big Flat Clean I soak the brush and brush holder in hot water and washing up liquid while I clean the rest of the bathroom (not sure why washing up liquid, must have read a tip somewhere). I learned something horrifying today; my husband uses the toilet brush to scrub the toilet every time he poos. He doesn't use any kind of cleaner, just runs the brush around the toilet to brush off the poo and then sticks it right back into the caddy.

I have had a Toto Carlysle with Sani-glos for about ten years. I use Simple Green (diluted about five to one) with a plastic bowl brush (not a brush with a twisted wire holding the bristles) for general cleaning. I also disinfect with about a half.
