Pumpkin carving is an annual tradition at the Halloween season. In Olympia, the act of pumpkin carving has become a refined art form for one family who have become legendary for their devotion to the practice. At the "Pumpkin House" in the South Capitol Neighborhood, the Sheeran family create and display over 120 elaborately carved pumpkins.

The Pumpkin House draws visitors from near and far, peaking with crowds of several thousand on Halloween night. Hence began a neighborhood tradition that has grown as more ghoulish decor in the South Capitol neighborhood, making it the destination halloween neighborhood. When my family moved into our historic Olympia house in 1996, we had no idea that our haunt would eventually spawn a huge Halloween celebration! After joining forces in 2002, my haunting partner Eric and I really began to expand our cemetery haunt.
