Classic Thanksgiving Cookies with a Twist
Start with a classic cookie recipe, like sugar cookies or gingerbread, and give them a Thanksgiving makeover. Here are some ideas to get you started:
- Pumpkin Spice Sugar Cookies: Add pumpkin puree and spices to your sugar cookie dough for a delicious autumn twist.
- Turkey Cookies: Use a turkey-shaped cookie cutter and decorate with royal icing in shades of brown and orange.
- Pilgrim Hat Cookies: Create pilgrim hat-shaped cookies and decorate with black and white icing.
Thanksgiving Cookies Decorating Techniques
Once you've baked your cookies, it's time to decorate. Here are some techniques to elevate your Thanksgiving cookies:
Royal Icing
Royal icing is a versatile medium for creating intricate designs on cookies. It's easy to make at home and can be thinned for outlining and flooding, or kept thick for piping details. Use it to create patterns, write messages, or add embellishments like beads and pearls.
Edible Markers
For a modern touch, use edible markers to draw designs directly onto your cookies. They're perfect for adding details to turkey or pilgrim hat cookies, or writing personalized messages.
Edible Glitter and Luster Dust
Add a touch of sparkle to your cookies with edible glitter or luster dust. Mix it into your icing for a subtle shimmer, or use it to create metallic accents.
