We ended up renting our campervan to try and find the best
ireland
road trips for two weeks and managed to see a lot of the country.
However it did end up being a bit rushed, and you could easily extend this to a month if you wanted to do all the amazing side trips and hiking excursions around. This is the exact itinerary that we followed, although where possible we’ve given alternatives that might be worth spending the night in. Our trip was plagued with storms and a hurricane (yes, a hurricane), so we had to skip a few things.
Every time i hear the words ‘road’ and ‘trip’ plonked together in the same sentence my mind immediately wanders to an image of a scooby-doo like vw camper hurdling along an open coastal road. Owning one of those vans and living off the grid for a stint is the explorer’s dream. I’ve always had it in my head that i’d like to travel the length and breadth of ireland in a vw camper, so i did a bit of digging to see what’s involved and wrapped all the important stuff up into this bite-sized guide. A local rural bus service is available from doonbeg providing onward access to the towns of kilrush, kilkee, lahinch and ennis, or to further afield around the loop head peninsula. We are located 20km from the shannon ferry terminal for easy access to/from county kerry. Our campsite has 18 pitches and is ideally located and designed for tourers exploring the breath-taking scenery of the wild atlantic way along the west coast of ireland.
