Acquire an Understanding of How to Apply the Material in Your Life
There will always be classes and subjects in which you have no interest but are forced to take. One of the major roadblocks to earning A's in college was my inability to connect the information to my life. In other words, I was not delving into the content in order to have a deeper understanding and ability to apply it. I've discovered that when you can apply the content and discuss how it applies to contemporary life, you retain considerably more of it. It's almost as if your brain flips a switch and you begin to absorb the content more effectively as a result of your involvement. That is not to imply you will adore the subject... Indeed, you may forget all you learned once the course concludes, but delving a little deeper into the content can help you obtain a decent mark in college.
Discover a Motivator That Is Deep
High school education is going to be a grind for virtually all ambitious kids. I'm not suggesting that learning isn't enjoyable, but you'll inevitably be required to complete tasks you dislike, sit in class listening to terribly dull lecturers, and study for examinations you're not looking forward to. All of this will require time and mental energy to navigate the most difficult sections. Motivation significantly impacts how hard you work and how tenaciously you persevere in the face of adversity. It turns out that motivation comes in two flavors: extrinsic (from without) and intrinsic (from within) (coming from within). One of them is far more durable. Parental pressure is a frequently used extrinsic motivator. You're grounded if you flunk a test. If you do not keep your room tidy, you will lose your phone. Positively, if you earn an A, your parents may purchase you those pair of shoes you've been eyeing. This is unquestionably possible, but only in the near term and with a high degree of reliability. While you may complete your assignments and refrain from texting for an evening, this will eventually result in irritation and animosity and will render you unreliable for extended periods of time. Consider the last time you had a disagreement with your parents over something they wanted you to complete, such as housework or homework. While fear of punishment is a powerful motivation, it wears off with time, especially as you become older and more independent. "Fine! I'm fine with being grounded!" Does this make sense? If you rely on your parents to motivate you and they are not present, you will be unable to work. Intrinsic motivation, on the other hand, is self-motivated. It's something you desire for yourself, regardless of what others believe. Perhaps you have a college in mind that you would like to attend.
You may wish to demonstrate to your detractors and critics that they are incorrect. Perhaps you'd like to compete against your adversary and emerge victorious. You may like acquiring knowledge purely for the sake of it. This motivation will carry you forward in the most trying situations. When you're exhausted and would rather watch YouTube than study, the prospect of earning a B will motivate you to get out of bed and stay focused. When you receive a C on an essay, the concept of failure becomes intolerable, and you are forced to consider where you failed and how you might better in the future. Extrinsic incentive, such as rewards, is found to be ineffective as a short-term reinforcer and detrimental as a long-term reinforcer. Dig deep, identify an internal issue that matters to you, and keep feeding the fire. I'd want to emphasize here that you should make every effort to avoid bad motives. In high school, I was extremely competitive to the point of repugnance, and the atmosphere was generally quite toxic. It's preferable if you can find something encouraging that does not turn you become a jerk. Additional information on intrinsic vs. extrinsic motivation can be found here, in a section geared at teachers. We've discussed really high-level mindsets and psychology up until this point. While some of this may sound like a corny motivating speech, believe me when I say that many more students are affected by these issues than I would like. Although these subjects are rarely covered in schools, I believe they are the most vital. If you lack confidence in your ability to develop, each failure will mentally cripple you. If you lack motivation, each day at work will be excruciating. You require a rock-solid basis upon which to construct your actual learning and study habits. With this in mind, we'll discuss the next level of academic success: strong academic practices and habits.
Utilize Your Own Motivating Forces
You must be motivated to succeed in order to maintain your grades. Self-encouragement is the only source of constant motivation. The following are some quick tips for maintaining self-motivation: Assemble the appropriate circle of friends. "You are the average of the five people with whom you spend the most time," motivational speaker Jim Rohn asserts. Locate and associate with people who are motivated and determined to succeed! Maintain an optimistic outlook. A favorable attitude invites favorable consequences. Maintain self-acceptance. Consider meditation or any other self-awareness technique. Improve your familiarity with oneself. Allow control to slip away. While grades are critical, they are not life-changing. Allow space for the unknown in every aspect of your life. This is the only true method of education. Maintain a log of your activities. Continuously monitor your position. If you are dissatisfied with your existing circumstances, take a step back and consider your options. What is it that you are doing that is incorrectly? What can be done to improve the situation? What specific changes are necessary and why? Consider the preceding if you wish to accomplish your objectives and produce superior results. Always keep an eye out for opportunities to motivate oneself. Keep in mind that everything begins on the inside.
Keep Yourself Active and Involved
To garner attention, you must be completely invested in everything you do. As a result, maintain an active lifestyle. Ask ten questions if you have ten during a single presentation. Subsequently, discuss the teachings with the professors. Visit their office during their regular hours of operation. Participate in campus events as well to maintain an active lifestyle. If necessary, approach additional students.
