Unboxing and Connecting Your Charter Modem

The first step is to unbox your charter modem. You should find the modem itself, an Ethernet cable, and a power adapter. Carefully remove the modem from its packaging, ensuring no parts are damaged during the process.

Next, connect your modem to the power outlet using the provided power adapter. Plug in the Ethernet cable into the WAN port on the modem and connect the other end to your computer. This will allow your computer to communicate with the modem during the setup process.

Once everything is connected, power on your modem. You should see a series of lights on the front of the modem. These lights indicate the status of your modem. The power light should be on, and the internet light should start blinking as the modem connects to the charter network.

It may take a few minutes for the internet light to turn solid green, indicating a successful connection. If the light remains blinking or turns red, there may be an issue with your modem. In this case, try unplugging the modem, waiting for 30 seconds, and then plugging it back in.

With your modem connected and powered on, open a web browser on your computer. In the address bar, type 192.168.1.1 and press enter. This should take you to the modem's configuration page. If it doesn't, try typing this address into the address bar again.

On the login page, enter your charter username and password. If you're unsure of your credentials, you can find them on your charter bill or by contacting charter customer service. Once you've entered your credentials, click 'Login' to access the modem's configuration page.

Now that you're on the modem's configuration page, you can start customizing your network settings. The first thing you'll want to do is change the admin password. This password is used to access the modem's configuration page and should be different from your charter username and password.

To change the admin password, look for the 'Management' or 'Admin' section of the configuration page. Here, you should see an option to change the password. Enter a strong, unique password and click 'Save' to apply the changes.

Setting Up Your Wi-Fi Network

Next, you'll want to set up your Wi-Fi network. Look for the 'Wireless' or 'Wi-Fi' section of the configuration page. Here, you can change the network name (SSID) and password. The SSID is the name of your Wi-Fi network that appears on devices when they're searching for available networks.

We recommend changing the default SSID and password for security reasons. Choose a unique, memorable name for your SSID and a strong, unique password for your network. Once you've made your changes, click 'Save' to apply them.

Enabling Security Features

Finally, you'll want to enable the security features on your modem. Look for the 'Security' section of the configuration page. Here, you should see options for enabling a firewall, setting up a guest network, and configuring other security settings.

We recommend enabling the firewall to protect your network from malicious activity. You can also set up a guest network for visitors, which keeps their devices separate from your main network. Once you've configured your security settings, click 'Save' to apply the changes.

Congratulations! You've successfully set up your charter modem. Your devices should now be able to connect to your Wi-Fi network using the SSID and password you created earlier. If you have any further questions or need additional assistance, don't hesitate to contact charter customer service.
