Which basement cracks are serious?

Horizontal cracks, which point to soil pressure against the wall, and step or diagonal cracks that signal settling or movement, are the concerning ones, especially if they are widening or accompanied by a bulging, bowing, or leaning wall. Hairline vertical cracks are often minor. Depend Exteriors assesses basement cracks in Edmonton to tell which need repair.

Why do Edmonton basements crack so much?

Edmonton's expansive clay soil swells and shrinks with moisture, putting shifting pressure on foundations, and freeze-thaw, a high water table, hydrostatic pressure, poor drainage, and aging mortar all add to it. These local conditions make foundation cracks common. Depend Exteriors provides basement masonry repair that addresses these Edmonton causes, not just the crack.

What does basement masonry repair involve?

Depending on the cause: crack repair or injection to seal a crack, mortar repointing to restore failing joints, block reinforcement or bracing for structural stress, and coordinated waterproofing and drainage where water is involved. The repair matches the cause. Depend Exteriors diagnoses why the wall cracked and matches the repair to it in Edmonton.
