Black & Decker 1700 PSI Pressure Washer: Power, Price & Reviews

The Black and Decker 1700 psi pressure washer stands as a testament to accessible and effective cleaning technology. Designed for the everyday homeowner, this machine delivers a powerful stream of water that easily cuts through grime, dirt, and stubborn stains. Whether you are tackling mildew on a patio or washing away years of buildup on outdoor furniture, this pressure washer provides the necessary force without the complexity of commercial-grade equipment. Its reputation for reliability makes it a staple in countless garages and tool sheds.

Key Specifications and Performance

At the heart of the unit is a 13-amp motor that generates a robust 1700 pounds per square inch (PSI) of cleaning power. This specific rating places the machine firmly in the mid-tier category, suitable for a wide range of residential tasks. The 1.2 gallons per minute (GPM) flow rate ensures that the cleaning process is efficient, rinsing away loosened debris quickly. When combined, the PSI and GPM figures result in a cleaning unit (CU) score of 2040, which is more than adequate for cleaning decks, driveways, and siding. The compact design and relatively light weight make it easy to maneuver, reducing user fatigue during extended cleaning sessions.

Versatile Application and Included Accessories

One of the strongest attributes of the Black and Decker 1700 psi model is its versatility in handling different cleaning surfaces. The pressure washer comes equipped with several nozzles that allow you to adjust the spray pattern to suit the task at hand. A quick-connect rotating nozzle provides a powerful, focused stream for tough stains, while a wide-angle fan spray is perfect for delicate surfaces like cars or windows to prevent damage. Typically, the kit includes a soap tank that allows for the application of specialized cleaning detergents. This transforms the unit from a simple water blaster into a deep-cleaning system capable of dissolving grease and removing mold with the help of a downstream chemical injector.

Design and User Experience

Black and Decker has prioritized user comfort and convenience in the design of this pressure washer. The machine features an On/Off switch and throttle control conveniently located on the handle, allowing for immediate adjustments without breaking your stride. The built-in detergent tank eliminates the need for messy buckets or additional tools, streamlining the cleaning process. The hose is designed to be robust yet flexible, resisting kinking while providing ample length to reach distant areas of your property. These thoughtful details contribute to a machine that feels intuitive and ready for immediate use straight from the box.

Pros and Cons Overview

Understanding the strengths and limitations of the Black and Decker 1700 psi pressure washer helps potential buyers determine if it fits their specific needs. The machine offers a solid balance of power and portability, making it a workhorse for typical household chores. It is generally more affordable than electric models with higher PSI ratings, presenting a strong value proposition. However, it is important to note that it requires a standard electrical outlet and a GFCI adapter for outdoor use, which can limit mobility compared to gas-powered alternatives. Additionally, while the power is sufficient for most home projects, it may struggle with extremely heavy industrial grime or large commercial jobs.

Maintenance and Long-Term Reliability

Ensuring the longevity of the pressure washer involves basic maintenance that is easy to perform. After each use, it is crucial to flush the system with clean water to remove any residual detergent or debris that could clog the internal components. The filter should be checked and cleaned regularly to maintain optimal water flow. Proper winterization is also essential in colder climates to prevent water from freezing inside the pump and causing damage. By following these simple steps, owners can expect the motor and pump to deliver consistent performance season after season, making the initial investment worthwhile over the long term.

For the homeowner seeking a dependable solution for cleaning exterior surfaces, the Black and Decker 1700 psi pressure washer represents a smart purchase. Its combination of adequate power, user-friendly features, and manageable price point makes it a practical tool for property maintenance. It bridges the gap between basic garden hoses and heavy-duty professional machines, offering an efficient way to restore the appearance of outdoor areas with minimal effort.
