Gather Your Materials and Tools

- Wood glue
- Screws (1-1/4" and 2-1/2")
- Wood filler

Design Your Table Base
First, decide on the size and shape of your table. For this example, we'll create a rectangular table base that's 36" wide, 72" long, and 30" tall. Sketch out your design, including the leg placement and apron (side and end panels) dimensions.
Cut the Legs and Aprons
Using your circular saw, cut the 2x4 lumber into the following pieces:

Add the Supports
Attach the 2x2 supports to the inside of the aprons, positioning them 12" from the top and bottom. These supports will help keep your tabletop level and provide additional stability. Use 1-1/4" screws to attach them, applying wood glue to the joints for added strength.
Strengthen the Joints
To reinforce the joints, cut 45-degree angles into the ends of the aprons where they meet the legs. This will create a stronger, more secure joint. Apply wood glue to the angled cuts before assembling the pieces.
Fill and Sand
Use wood filler to fill any gaps or holes in the table base. Allow the filler to dry, then sand the entire base with 120-grit sandpaper to remove any rough spots. Sand again with 220-grit sandpaper for a smooth finish.
Stain or Paint (Optional)
If desired, stain or paint your table base to match your decor. Allow the finish to dry completely before attaching the tabletop.
Attach the Tabletop
