Magnolia Table's Chicken Pot Pie: A Comforting Classic with a Twist
In the heart of Waco, Texas, lies a charming restaurant that has captured the nation's attention with its down-home cooking and warm atmosphere. Magnolia Table, owned by Chip and Joanna Gaines, has become synonymous with comfort food, and one of their most beloved dishes is the Chicken Pot Pie. In this article, we'll delve into the Magnolia Table Chicken Pot Pie episode, exploring its origins, key ingredients, and how you can recreate this comforting classic at home.
From Joanna's Kitchen to Magnolia Table
Before Magnolia Table opened its doors, Joanna Gaines was known for her hospitality and love for cooking, often hosting friends and family at her home. The Chicken Pot Pie was one of her signature dishes, a family favorite that she decided to include in the restaurant's menu. The episode of "Fixer Upper" where they revealed the menu for Magnolia Table showcased this dish, and it has since become a customer favorite.
What Makes Magnolia Table's Chicken Pot Pie Special?
The Chicken Pot Pie at Magnolia Table is not your average pot pie. While it retains the classic elements of a creamy chicken filling and a flaky crust, Joanna adds her unique touch with the use of fresh herbs, a hint of heat, and a secret ingredient that sets it apart.
Fresh Herbs for Flavor
Joanna uses a combination of fresh thyme, rosemary, and sage to enhance the flavor of the chicken and vegetables. These herbs are not only delicious but also add a beautiful pop of color to the dish.
A Hint of Heat
For those who like a little kick in their comfort food, Joanna adds a touch of heat to her Chicken Pot Pie. She uses a combination of red pepper flakes and a spicy chicken sausage to give the dish a subtle warmth that complements the creamy sauce.
The Secret Ingredient
While Joanna has kept the exact recipe a secret, she has hinted at a unique ingredient that gives her Chicken Pot Pie its distinctive flavor. Some fans have speculated that it could be a touch of apple cider vinegar or a splash of white wine, but the true secret remains a mystery.
Recreating Magnolia Table's Chicken Pot Pie at Home
While Joanna hasn't shared the exact recipe, she has given fans enough clues to recreate a similar version at home. Here's a recipe inspired by Magnolia Table's Chicken Pot Pie:
| Ingredients | Quantity |
|---|---|
| Chicken breasts | 2 boneless, skinless |
| Chicken sausage | 4 oz, spicy |
| Onion | 1 medium, diced |
| Carrots | 2 medium, sliced |
| Celery | 2 stalks, sliced |
| Garlic | 2 cloves, minced |
| Fresh thyme | 1 tbsp, chopped |
| Fresh rosemary | 1 tsp, chopped |
| Fresh sage | 1 tsp, chopped |
| Red pepper flakes | 1/2 tsp |
| Flour | 1/4 cup |
| Chicken broth | 2 cups |
| Heavy cream | 1/2 cup |
| Salt | To taste |
| Pepper | To taste |
| Pie crust | 1, homemade or store-bought |
To make the filling, cook the chicken breasts and sausage separately, then shred the chicken and slice the sausage. In a large pot, sauté the onions, carrots, celery, and garlic until softened. Add the herbs, red pepper flakes, and flour, cooking for a minute. Stir in the chicken broth and bring to a boil. Add the heavy cream, shredded chicken, and sliced sausage. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
Roll out the pie crust and place it in a pie dish. Pour the filling into the crust, then top with the remaining crust. Seal the edges and cut slits in the top to allow steam to escape. Bake at 400°F (200°C) for 25-30 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown.
Serving Magnolia Table's Chicken Pot Pie
Joanna serves her Chicken Pot Pie with a side of her famous biscuits or a simple green salad. The creamy, comforting filling pairs perfectly with the flaky crust, making it a hearty meal that's perfect for sharing with family and friends.
Magnolia Table's Impact on Comfort Food Culture
Magnolia Table's Chicken Pot Pie is more than just a dish; it's a symbol of the Gaines' ability to create a sense of warmth and comfort in their restaurant and in the homes of their fans. The dish has inspired countless home cooks to experiment with their own comfort food recipes, adding fresh herbs, a hint of heat, and a touch of mystery to their classic dishes.
In the end, the Magnolia Table Chicken Pot Pie episode is not just about a recipe; it's about the spirit of hospitality, the joy of sharing a meal with loved ones, and the power of comfort food to bring people together. Whether you're a fan of "Fixer Upper" or simply a lover of good food, the Chicken Pot Pie from Magnolia Table is a dish worth trying and a story worth telling.
