Magnolia Table's Classic Take on Chicken Pot Pie: A Comfort Food Masterclass
The Magnolia Table, Chip and Joanna Gaines' beloved restaurant, is famous for its heartwarming, homestyle dishes that bring people together. One dish that stands out among the rest is their Chicken Pot Pie, a comforting classic that's been given a unique twist. Let's dive into the delightful world of Magnolia Table's Chicken Pot Pie and explore what makes it a must-try comfort food.
Understanding the Appeal of Chicken Pot Pie
Chicken Pot Pie is a timeless dish that's been a staple in American households for generations. Its appeal lies in its comforting, hearty nature, making it a perfect dish for cold weather or when you're craving a taste of home. Magnolia Table's version of this classic dish takes these comforting elements and elevates them with signature Gaines' charm.
The Magnolia Table Difference
So, what sets Magnolia Table's Chicken Pot Pie apart from other versions of this classic dish? It's all in the details. The Gaineses have a knack for taking traditional recipes and giving them a unique twist, making them stand out without losing the essence of the original. Here are some elements that make their Chicken Pot Pie a standout:
- Crust: While many Chicken Pot Pies use a standard pie crust, Magnolia Table's version features a flaky, buttery biscuit topping that adds a delightful texture and flavor.
- Filling: The filling is where the real magic happens. It's a rich, creamy mixture filled with tender chicken, vegetables, and a hint of warmth from spices like thyme and rosemary.
- Presentation: The dish is served in a cast-iron skillet, adding a rustic, homey touch that's signature to the Magnolia aesthetic.
Recreating the Magic at Home
If you're eager to try Magnolia Table's Chicken Pot Pie at home, you're in luck. The Gaineses have shared their recipe in Joanna's cookbook, "Magnolia Table: A Collection of Recipes for Gathering." Here's a brief overview of the recipe:
Ingredients
The recipe calls for a few simple ingredients, including chicken breasts, vegetables like carrots, celery, and onions, heavy cream, chicken broth, and a few spices. The biscuit topping is made with simple ingredients like flour, baking powder, and buttermilk.
Instructions
The recipe begins with cooking the chicken and vegetables in a Dutch oven. Once the chicken is cooked, it's removed, and the vegetables are cooked until softened. The chicken is then shredded and added back into the pot with a creamy sauce made from heavy cream, chicken broth, and spices.
The biscuit topping is made separately and dropped onto the chicken and vegetable mixture in the Dutch oven. The whole dish is then baked until the biscuits are golden brown and the filling is bubbling.
Serving Suggestions
Magnolia Table serves their Chicken Pot Pie with a side of their famous Skillet Cornbread, which adds a delightful crunch and a touch of sweetness to balance out the richness of the pie. You could also serve it with a simple green salad to add some freshness to the meal.
Why Magnolia Table's Chicken Pot Pie is a Must-Try
Magnolia Table's Chicken Pot Pie is more than just a dish; it's an experience. It's a comforting, heartwarming meal that brings people together, just like the Gaineses intended. Whether you're a fan of the Magnolia aesthetic, a comfort food enthusiast, or simply looking for a new twist on an old classic, Magnolia Table's Chicken Pot Pie is a dish worth trying.
