I remember hearing in school (long ago) about rainforests being chopped down, and thinking surely someone would do something about it. It honestly didn’t occur to me that that person might be me. Yet here I am, a tiny cog in the bigger picture, doing what I can in my spare time.

That spare time is quite limited as I am busy (I’m a musician) but baby steps add up. Together with the Greenpeace family we’ve made many small changes which accumulate into big change. When we work together we become powerful. We need every person – no matter who – to do what they can.

I have been a freelance journalist and environmental activist for almost thirty years. I first became involved in peaceful direct action protests in the mid-1990s, campaigning against the government’s motorway building programme and later joined Plane Stupid to highlight the environmental dangers associated with airport expansion.

I have also been involved in campaigns to oppose the building of new nuclear power stations around the UK. I have been a Greenpeace Local Group Coordinator for ten years and, in 2015, I became chair of a solar-tactic local co-operative that has so far installed solar arrays on seven local primary schools.

I first became properly engaged in environmental concerns when I saw Al Gore’s film An Inconvenient Truth in 2006. I joined my local Greenpeace group in 2013 and have co-run the Shoreditch group since 2015. We have a fantastic group of volunteers who, as part of Greenpeace, are making a difference.

I’ve been involved in all kinds of campaigns from London air pollution to John West tuna. My day job is as a self-employed graphic designer.

As a Greenspeaker, I hope to spread the word about environmental issues and the good work Greenpeace does.

I’ve been involved with environmental issues for some time, but the recent UN Report (2018) has spurred me on to be more active. I’m inspired by Greenpeace’s history of direct action and wealth of experience, and enjoy representing the organisation – giving presentations to a wide range of groups, and where appropriate, using group skills to help people deal with feelings that might hinder effective action – including building and ensuring diversity within groups.

Although the challenges are great, for the first time, we have a cause that is in absolutely vital to all!

I am not your traditional activist, but I am motivated to act when I see the negative impact humans are having on our oceans, forests, climate and our diversity of life.

With over twenty-five years’ experience of presenting in professional environments I decided to put my communication skills to good use as a Greenpeace Speaker. My strength is presenting complex issues simply and making real the actions we can all take.

I would be delighted to talk you, whether you are a school, community group or an organisation, exploring together how we can live in balance with our environment.

I have known about and been inspired by Greenpeace’s work for as long as I can remember! Driven by environmental destruction I saw through the media, I got involved in 2002 as an active supporter in my local group.

I am a filmmaker in my day job, working on broadcast, arts and educational films. In my spare time, I co-run the Camden Greenpeace group.

I am a confident communicator and love talking to people of all ages and backgrounds.

I believe education is the most powerful tool we have to change the world for the better, and as a Greenspeaker, I want to inspire others to be that change!

I love this beautiful planet of ours and its amazing biodiversity.

In my work as a business adviser, I work with organisations large and small and help them to design their futures and figure out the changes required to get there. The environmental challenges we face require us to make changes in our personal and working lives – I am committed to a personal journey to make positive environmental impact.

I am very happy presenting and having large group conversations. Whether you are a school, student group, public or private organisation, I want to speak with people interested in learning about Greenpeace, it’s campaigns and the things we can do to help bring about a thriving planet.

Hello, I’m Ray. My background is in accountancy and IT – previously I worked for a Big 4 accountancy firm. I’m now self-employed, working part-time in the cultural sector, and also volunteer in areas that I care about – equality, sport, architecture, and of course the environment.

I’ve been involved with Greenpeace for a number of years initially in Australia and now in the UK. I became a Greenspeaker to help inform organisations and people about the issues facing our planet and what they can do to help.

I got involved with Greenpeace 25 years ago when the words Global Warming and Climate Change appeared. Having four children under 10, I thought I should find out more. Greenpeace provided information and I joined the volunteer network.

I worked as a local journalist. I helped start several South London groups and now run Greenpeace Bromley. I have made many close friends and enjoyed being a Greenpeace orang-utan, taking part in festivals and campaigning on street stalls.

I feel it is important to link with the community to show them how Greenpeace peaceful campaigns have changed the world for the better.

Shirley Waterhouse

Excited by the work of Greenpeace as a teenager, inspired by the daring missions of the original Rainbow Warrior ship, I’ve been a supporter for many years, and now campaign with my local group.

There is still so much to do, with Greenpeace still at the forefront. I feel privileged to be able to help spread the word about our campaigns and how everyone can get involved. I work in the pharmaceutical sector but also have experience in education and training and am encouraged that so many young people hold the future of our planet close to their hearts – those of us a bit older need to be acting too. There is no time for waiting anymore.

Currently, I work at a non-profit organisation that focuses on urban sustainability. This includes improving air quality, waste systems, energy efficiency, and implementing adaptation strategies in cities.

From a young age, I had enjoyed exploring parks and areas of wilderness, which led me to appreciate our natural ecosystem. Whilst humanity has treated the environment irresponsibly, I feel strongly that we can reverse this if more people are aware and engaged in being sustainable. Being a Greenpeace Speaker is an exciting opportunity for me to spread the word, so that others can also be empowered to be part of the solution.
