I’m an academic researcher and teacher of German literature, currently based in Reading.

I have always been concerned about climate change in a general way, but the hot summer of 2018 really brought home to me how urgent the situation now is. I also watched Simon Amstell’s film Carnage which imagines the UK in 2067, by which time sea levels have risen considerably. These ‘wake up’ moments inspired me to make some changes in my own life, led me to the Greenpeace website, and eventually to volunteer with the organisation. I’ve been so impressed by Greenpeace’s organisation, and by how creative their campaigns are!

I adore walking and roaming the British countryside and hate to see the way we often treat our planet. I have now decided that the only way to help it is to use my time to make the most impact possible. I fell in love with Greenpeace as they have an amazing track record of achievements and tackle the most vital issues in ways that have direct impact.

Greenspeaking is an excellent way to allow curious and environmentally conscious people talk to real and passionate volunteers, so that we can collect and plan for the longevity of our world’s environment.

I first became aware of Greenpeace when the Rainbow Warrior was sunk in Auckland in 1985. I immediately became a supporter and, 10 years ago, started leading the Canterbury group.

I have campaigned with Greenpeace to protect our oceans and forests, to protect the Arctic and the Antarctic, to stop fracking and to prevent climate change. Greenpeace actions have taken me all over Europe and the UK and I have seen the inside of more than one police cell.

By being a Greenspeaker I hope to help people understand what is happening and demonstrate practical steps that everyone can take.

I’ve been a supporter of Greenpeace since 2016 and a member of the local group in Brighton since 2018. For many years I have worked both as an Event Manager and Tour Leader.

The role of Greenpeace Speaker is a unique opportunity to combine my experience in public speaking with my passion for protecting the environment. My hope is that through my presentations I will be able to inspire people of all ages and backgrounds to take a greater interest in protecting our planet, and to realise the potential we all have to make a difference!

I’ve been involved with Greenpeace since 1989 and first participated in direct action in 1993 to oppose the expansion of the nuclear power industry. After working as a research scientist for 20 years I became a consultant and trainer working for voluntary sector organisations funding health, medicine and research.

As part of the Greenpeace group in Oxford, I had already spoken to many people in many contexts about Greenpeace and its campaigns, so becoming a Greenspeaker was a great way to tell others in Oxfordshire and adjacent counties about how Greenpeace works and why it’s an effective organisation.

I am not your traditional activist, but I am motivated to act when I see the negative impact humans are having on our oceans, forests, climate and our diversity of life.

With over twenty-five years’ experience of presenting in professional environments I decided to put my communication skills to good use as a Greenpeace Speaker. My strength is presenting complex issues simply and making real the actions we can all take.

I would be delighted to talk you, whether you are a school, community group or an organisation, exploring together how we can live in balance with our environment.

I’m a Legal Counsel for work and a committed environmentalist in my own time. Prior to becoming a Greenpeace Speaker, I also founded an environmental foundation to educate people on the issues of our time and to support projects around the world that build climate resilience, protect vulnerable wildlife and restore balance to threatened ecosystems and communities.

I became a Speaker in order to raise awareness, create positive impact and demonstrate to different audiences what impact they can have to protect our planet.

Being a part of Greenpeace as a volunteer and, more recently, taking over as a Local Group Co-ordinator for the Kingston & Richmond Local Group has been an exciting and rewarding experience. We have many beautiful areas locally that deserve protecting – but on a wider scale, I would like to see younger generations having a positive impact on global environmental decisions; after all, they are the future!

Feeling the success of Greenpeace campaigns spurs me on to encourage students to get more involved and see that they can have a real impact. We now need a fresh, green generation to emerge!

Based in: Walton-On-Thames
Topics of interest: Any but in particular plastic use, intensive agriculture and environmental impact, protection of indigenous land, protection of forests/jungles and overfishing

I’ve supported Greenpeace for many years; I bought a ‘Stop Acid Rain’ umbrella about 40 years ago which is still going strong! Since I retired I have time to cycle so I ditched my car – not literally – and now I cycle or use public transport.

I live in Dorking which has two very local areas threatened by oil drilling so I’m particularly interested in their campaigns against plastic and fracking. I used to teach English and Drama so I enjoy speaking in front of an audience (of all ages) especially when it’s about something I feel strongly about. I also like a difficult question or two!

I’ve been supporting Greenpeace since a teenager, when i saw the anti-whaling protests, and have become more active recently. I work in sustainability/environmental management.

In my spare time I lead cycle rides for adults, teach children to cycle, and volunteer at a local social justice charity. I enjoy giving presentations and was inspired by a talk on the Arctic 30.

I would like to talk to a captive audience about GPs campaigns and inspire them to take action too. I am based in Berkshire and am particularly interested in the impact of waste and what we can do about it!
