The purpose of a SAP evaluation is to determine whether an individual meets the criteria for a substance abuse disorder and to recommend appropriate treatment or education programs.
The SAP will conduct an initial interview with the individual to gather information about their substance use history, any related legal or employment issues, and their overall physical and mental health.
The SAP employs standardized tools and criteria to assess substance abuse, gauging severity, detecting co-occurring mental health issues, and evaluating its impact on one's life and functioning.
Based on the assessment results, the SAP will make recommendations for appropriate treatment or education programs. These recommendations are tailored to the individual's specific needs and may include referrals to outpatient counseling, inpatient rehabilitation, support groups, or other resources.
Following the assessment and treatment advice, the SAP may oversee the individual's adherence to the prescribed plan. This oversight entails conducting follow-up assessments, performing drug tests, and liaising with the person's employer or regulatory body to track their progress and compliance.
Do You Need To Complete A SAP Program To Get Back to Work? SAP Evaluations are Available Monday through Friday. Weekend Appointments Are Available.
SAP DOT Return to Duty refers to the process of returning an employee to work after they have undergone a substance abuse evaluation and treatment program as mandated by the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations.
The DOT has specific regulations in place to ensure the safety of individuals operating in safety-sensitive positions, such as commercial drivers, pilots, and railroad workers. These regulations require employees in these positions to undergo drug and alcohol testing.
If an employee tests positive for drugs or alcohol during a DOT-mandated test, they are typically removed from their safety-sensitive position and referred for a substance abuse evaluation. The evaluation is conducted by a qualified professional to determine if the employee requires treatment for substance abuse.
Once the employee completes the required treatment program, they must undergo a DOT Return to Duty evaluation. This evaluation involves a face-to-face meeting with a qualified Substance Abuse Professional (SAP) who assesses the employee's compliance with the treatment recommendations and determines if they are fit to return to their safety-sensitive position.
The SAP evaluates the employee's progress, conducts a follow-up drug and alcohol test, and reviews any necessary documentation from the treatment program. If the SAP determines that the employee is successfully rehabilitated and can safely return to their duties, they provide a written recommendation for the employer, stating that the employee has met the requirements for a Return to Duty.
