It’s around this time where we often get messages from some of our customers asking one particular question “How do you get red (or white & rose, we don’t discriminate) wine out of carpets and upholstery?”
It can be tough and very frustrating dealing with stains – especially if you didn’t make them! Just remember each type of carpet and material might require different cleaning methods, but in general we find these tips will help with 90% of your red wine stains. Upholstery
- Blot and dab up as much of the spillage as possible.
- Mix 1-2 tablespoons of liquid hand dish washing detergent (e.g. fairy liquid!) with two cups of cool water.
- Use a clean white cloth and lightly sponge the stain with the detergent solution.
- Blot and dab until the liquid is absorbed.
- Repeat Steps 3 and 4 until the stain disappears – deep stains equals more blotting!
- Finally, sponge with cold water and dab dry.
Carpet
- Blot and dab up as much of the spillage as possible.
- Mix 1 tablespoon of liquid hand dish washing detergent and 1 tablespoon of white vinegar with 2 cups of warm water.
- Use a clean white cloth and lightly sponge the stain with the detergent solution.
- Apply a little bit at a time
- Blot and dab frequently using a dry cloth until the stain disappears.
- Finally sponge with cold water and dab/blot dry
